@@scottysvensson mine is January 2019, Inscription, custom made, adaptive suspension and 8 speed geartronic gear box, turbocharged and supercharged, and believe me or not, max speed in Power mode, on autobahn, was 240km/h (limited by factory) with 2 pasengers and one large suitcase, full tank. Of course, consumption gone sky high. Too bad that after the latest update I can't see in Driving Journal the speed as before to prove it to you. As I know, starting with 2020 Volvo limited the max speed at 180. Mine is build January 2019, in Torslanda - Sweden, received on March 1st 2019. After July 2019 they start to build such model also in China. So believe me, or not, I drove mine with 240.

actually volvo did not update the limit for some reason, it was on the autobahn, so pretty slow for that kind of road :D

Yes, max speed si electronically limited from the factory to 185km/h on the speedo which is about 180km/h on gps, unfortunately.. Even volvo is saying this is not the best car for the german autobahn :(

@@throttlerushofficial that limit was implemented starting with 2020 on all models, but those made before have the max limit at 240km/h. I have an XC60 T8 Twin Engine, 400HP and 640 Nm torque, build in January 2019 and the max speed I drove it was 240km/h.

Were you able to try various comfort/sport settings? I would like to know how is the comfort setting for daily driving? Does it get close to 5 series level of comfort (M50 has air suspension in the rear)

@@techups3082 yes. But the drive feel is vastly inferior to the tesla. combination of high weight and that its just a retrofitted ICE car and not a true electric car.

I just drove one this past Thursday,...and for me, I won't say it's was too much,...but it was very well an eye-opening event! Now, on another note, I think it will be a handful for some that aren't use to Very High Performance cars! The i4 M50 snaps necks! I suspect the M340 version will soon follow the i4 M50 GC.

@@techups3082 similar performance, but to get the same features the M3P offers, you would need to spend 20K more on the BM. The BM also suffers in handling, due to it's massive weight disadvantage.

@@techups3082 What I was saying is, if you add the same features to the BM, that the M3P comes standard with, then you are looking at 20K, that would be an apple to apple comparison, but hey, buy what you like. Buy what you like most.

@@number1Schumacherfan like “Launch control” you have boosted performances on specific conditions which is not real life usage. For the i4 it is 10s boost only. In real life is not possible to continuously activate the boost. Launch control is the same. You can only use it after a full acceleration & brake release sequence to have the full claimed 0-60 time. Otherwise your have to add between 0.4 and 0.8 s on the 0-60 time claimed by the vendor. On the paper it is better for vendor to indicate the 0-60 time with Launch control even if you will never use it. The Tesla M3 is not using any boost or Launch control.

I call BS. 0-100 in 3.3s you would be in the top 5 of dragy, all of them had modified cars and sticky tires. A stock M3P wont do 3.3s.

it's much heavier, unfortunately that's not good in corners. my problem : i don't like the interior of the tesla,i don't like the bad aerodynamics of the bmw due to the radiator grille design

That never happened. I own a model 3 LR and drove a m50 back to back. The bmw would absolutely destroy it in a drag, not to mention a standard +.

Can you tell me where you're getting the information that the final drive gear would allow it to go 165 but it's electronically limited because I don't understand why they would limit it that low. If it is possible to go 165 without hitting an RPM limit on the emotor . I think maybe you're getting confused with a no load RPM of the motor versus a loaded RPM because at top RPM there is always a lot of back EMF .

The i4 powertrain (specifically the motors) is designed to deliver a relatively flat power curve till maximum speed (like Tesla Plaid), model 3 performance powertrain shows the maximum peak power around 90km/h than power reduces as the speed increase. This explains why 100-200 acceleration is better for bmw. Bmw use a different motor technology which has some advantages as regards the torque/power curves at high speed. The dyno curves can be found in internet. Regarding the top speed, the advertised peak power ratings (i.e. short time operations, we are talking for time from 10 to 60s, in the bmw the blue bar that is getting smaller as seconds pass is exactly there for this reason) does not dictated the top speed. The ICE approach cannot be extended to a EV. Top speed in EV is defined and governed based on: - maximum motor speed, which is mainly a mechanical limit (to remember: there is no multiple speed gearbox like in a ICE) - continuous power / longer time duty power at high rpm, otherwise I cannot sustain the top speed, the powertrain overheats. - sometimes marketing: differentiation of products that share the same powertrain.

@@NRG1985 is the engine uses in the BMW the one that is using brushes again? If so, I can only think they have cut corners to achieve this and that these engines are not build to achieve 1 million miles as the ones in the model 3?

@@Maarten_vd yes, they are AC motors so called electrically excited (or wound rotor or wound field) synchronous motors therefore they normally need brushes, but such brushes are not stressed like those in a classic DC motor. Not only BMW, all Renault EVs (excluding Twizy) has such kind of motor since the first of their model, and from the next Gen they will switch to an inductive system, therefore will be brushless. I think up to 300000-500000km should be possible before replacement of the brushes (16000h). BMW decision is kind of atypical since they switched from permanent magnet synchronous machines to this one while Tesla switched to PM synchronous machines (from induction motor) . I think BMW decion was based, together with some torque/power advantages at high speed range (also in terms of efficiency, which can be superior in this scenario) and no drag torque, also tonsome strategic and environmental reasons behind due to the fact that you rid off of magnets and rare earth.
