It's not widescreen it's stretched. The character portraits while racing should be 1:1 square. And the placement of all the 2D elements are the same as in 4:3. It's just not that obvious with no 3D characters on screen that it is stretched.

I’ve got real issues with these new tvs I know technology has to move on but I just don’t see any benefit in these new hd flat panels. A game like Metroid prime on a crt still looks incredible run. Sharper than anything at 1080p

1:18 yep toitally true the manual doesnt even tell you this so if you are trying to drift you have to figure out on your own that you have to HOLD the button or it doesnt work, this murdered me as a kid and I don't think i ever figured it out. I only figured it out a few months ago on my modded DC

Such fascinating design. All these manoeuvres definitely feel purposeful, yet when you performing them they look slightly glitchy with your cab bouncing all around. For the arcade team to pour that level of deep learning into a set of simple systems is staggering and is what is missing from a lot of modern game design. Crazy Taxi may offer the greatest depth to number of buttons ratio in gaming. Gas, brake, steering, reverse, drive. Go.

some of my favourite times as a console player is playing on a CRT. 0 input latency if you had a decent crt like I did my Panasonic one came with a stand but it looked absolutely amazing to play on it wasn't super bad on the scanlines more like a static image. games looked brilliant on it and I was responsive as hell on fps games. this is in my opinion as close to normal or default as you can get. Scanlines for me are off putting luckily my tv was bright/ crisp and fun to play on.

Did it have a component input? Or was it just composite

You'd really need two identical CRT TVs to do a proper comparison. The later CRT TVs had a lot of junk processing forced into them (e.g. sharpness, etc) compared to the older CRT TV.

You really nailed down the "holding a button", is as much of an action as "pressing the button," a lot of people don't get that... And your explanation of how the cab "catches" the boost was perfect! I was able to tighten up my Limiter Cuts almost instantly from your advice! Keep going! You're an excellent teacher! New subscriber here 😂

I have a PS3 and a CRT myself. The Sanyo HT30746. I had the demo disc back in the day but I never had the actual game… until now. I found on Amazon FF VIII used like new for $10. It’s due to arrive on Tuesday. Should look great on my CRT, especially since I did some calibration during a cutscene on MGS:4. I still need to adjust the focus via the potentiometer, but that requires removing the rear chassis. Something that would be easier once I get an A/V cart.
