Thank you so much for this post. I have been searching high and low to find someone that has a similar story to mine. I was diagnosed with crohn’s about 2 years ago.. 17 years prior I was diagnosed with UC and had my large colon removed. I had a temporary ostomy for a year. After that I lived my life....thinking I was ‘cured’. Upon reflection I was experiencing quite a number of symptoms but dismissed them/normalized them as symptoms I would just have to live with and tolerate. Recently it was recommended by my surgeon and GI to get an ostomy. I’m just really struggling with the idea as I’m not super sympathetic. I deal with urgency, fatigue, some pain, joint pain, heaviness in my chest and throat from stricture....all things I think I’m dealing with/tolerating. Sadly, biologics were not effective so I’m not on any medication. I’m still able to go to work... I certainly don’t want symptoms to get so severe that I don’t have a choice in the matter .... I just find this disease can be very impactful on my mental health. I can feel okay but My insides are just raging with inflammation. And I can be very dismissive of when I have been really sick when I’m feeling better. Sorry for the long post. Just appreciate your post. Just trying my best to navigate this period in my life.

You’re not really saying what it’s really like to have an ostomy. Just random talking. No one needs to know which alcoholic beverage you think is tastiest.

Yes, Stoma bags can be pre-cut to any shape to fit. Normally the circumference isn't round and more oval shaped. Nice explanation about the bag because I think it is preference to what parts are best for the person. E.g. Easy to drain, good stick, how much it can hold...

I’m Day 2 after breast reduction surgery and I had a lift also. I have showered - I have waterproof tape over my sutures. I took Tylenol 3 the first night only and just using regular Tylenol at night when I go to sleep. I feel awesome!!!

Unfortunately there is nothing in this world so ugly and horrible looking as botched boobs, scarred and deformed with shriveled nipples, ask any man. Some women seems to lack any sense for aesthetics?

Do you kniw why some people remove their drains a week later? Is it related with breast size before the reduction?

I think it's down to the surgeon's preference. I had hardly anything in mine when they were removed.

Not necessary for all patients my breast reduction is next week and they warned me my size would require drains.
@popstargurl2413 жыл бұрын
I only had my drains for a day or basically the day of surgery. Cause I went back in the next day to my doctors office and they removed them. My doctor said they don't normally keep them longer than 3 days. But I think it's all on preference

I think it is fabulous that you are in touch with your mental health. It is something that is not talked about enough!! - I began following you during your breast reduction (because I had one a month later), after watching you, a member of our church had the same medical issues you have. I recommended your channel to her to just watch for some support.. thank you for sharing your health. I wish for you much prosperity. - Tam

Aww thanks Tam! I agree, I don't think that there is anything wrong with ever opening up about your mental health. Life is hard, for anyone, not just us with chronic illnesses! I hope your friend is doing OK. She can reach out to me any time she needs any support :)

Lately, I was looking for a great breast enhancement that is safe and sound for my body. I discovered this particular breast enlargement technique “good vamvam site” (Google it) and used it for a few months. I observed results with two containers. My hubby was very pleased with the outcomes but I am far happier than him.

Hi! My mother is 53 and she uses a colostomy bag located very closed to her belly button. She has to use it due to a fistula that it is not closing anymore. The problem is that we cannot find the way to keep the bag stuck on the skin more than few hours or a day as maximum. That is because the liquid filters through the body folds that she has around the belly button. We have tried everything and we are quite stressed because changing the bags is a very painful process for my mum. Could you give me some advice related to doble-piece colostomy bag please? Thank you very much. Lucrecia

When you say you have tried everything, what have you tried? I would suggest trying out different bags, you can request samples directly from suppliers. Also I would request some adhesive removal spray or wipes. These allow you to remove the bag without having to pull the skin and should be a lot easier to remove. Have you also tried mouldable rings? Try and get some samples of these too. You can use these to try and piug the stomach fold which is causing the leaking. Failing that, stoma nurses are amazing at problem solving these issues. They see them all the time. You're not alone!

Thank you so much for replying. In the end I ended up in an argument with my surgeon, who didnt seem to care much about my health. Im going back to my g.p tomorrow and hoping to transfer to a different hospital (Lewisham). This is all due to severe Endometriosis spreading everywhere and Kings College Hospital leaving me (and losing my notes) for two years. The nhs is under such a strain, the nurses were so helpful and lovely, but the surgeon was terrible (at Kings). Back to square one, but hopefully with a better outcome (a hysterectomy) at Lewisham Hospital. xx

Thanks so much for posting this, girl! Very informative. I'm actually getting surgery soon, too. I am wondering if you could explain more about what it was like to get put to sleep? This is the part that FREAKS me OUT!! What does it feel like when they put the stuff in, like do you get sleepy or is more like wide awake to instantly out?I heard it burns, too? Could you have stayed awake if you would have tried or is it impossible? Haha. Basically whatever you remember about that part would be helpful. Thanks so much!
@OstomyAdvocate7 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome! Good luck! You'll be great! They take you into a room where you get up on the bed and lay down. Then they put some heart rate monitors on you and insert a cannula into your vein, if they haven't already. You may feel a little anxious at this point, but don't worry. They will probably give you a little sedative or some strong painkillers which will relax you a lot. You'll feel great and relaxed. May be hard to believe, but seriously.. it's the best feeling ever! When they put you to sleep, they either put something in your cannula like how they did for the sedative, or they put a mask over your mouth. Either way, they always tells you what they are doing and what they are giving you, so no surprises. They may ask you to count down from 10 or to think of somewhere nice. But to be honest, with this surgery I don't remember falling asleep at all!! I've been out to sleep over 10 times and it's never burned, ever. You will see the anaesthetist who will put you to sleep and stay with you, before you go down for the surgery, so you can just tell them that you're feeling a bit nervous. To be honest, you're better off being asleep than staying awake feeling uncomfortable for 4 or so hours! Before you know it, you'll be awake again with people around you looking after you. Good luck again, and let me know if you have any other questions!

Looking good! I'm almost 4 weeks post op now, still have some bruises and still itching as the skin peels off ( normal as the swelling comes down) I'm as white as can be but the scars look very nice... almost can't see the ones around the nipples anymore. Not sure what size I am now, was targeting 32b (from 32h...) feeling better/can do more everyday. Good luck on the rest of your recovery.
