Thank you so much for this post. I have been searching high and low to find someone that has a similar story to mine. I was diagnosed with crohn’s about 2 years ago.. 17 years prior I was diagnosed with UC and had my large colon removed. I had a temporary ostomy for a year. After that I lived my life....thinking I was ‘cured’. Upon reflection I was experiencing quite a number of symptoms but dismissed them/normalized them as symptoms I would just have to live with and tolerate. Recently it was recommended by my surgeon and GI to get an ostomy. I’m just really struggling with the idea as I’m not super sympathetic. I deal with urgency, fatigue, some pain, joint pain, heaviness in my chest and throat from stricture....all things I think I’m dealing with/tolerating. Sadly, biologics were not effective so I’m not on any medication. I’m still able to go to work... I certainly don’t want symptoms to get so severe that I don’t have a choice in the matter .... I just find this disease can be very impactful on my mental health. I can feel okay but My insides are just raging with inflammation. And I can be very dismissive of when I have been really sick when I’m feeling better. Sorry for the long post. Just appreciate your post. Just trying my best to navigate this period in my life.
