An absolutely vital rendition! Different than his recordings and perhaps a bit less “outwardly flashy” as such, but even more deeply probing and dramatic. There are great recordings from Richter of this sonata, but in many ways Ivo is even more insightful than the great Richter.

Bravissimo!

Exceptional. Pletnev spoke about his understanding of the impact of Chopin's worsening illness on the transcendental quality of the preludes. Every choice he makes in playing is dictated by his knowledge of the work and the composer's labors. It is useless to compare him to others, he is not in competition with anyone.

Judina is definitely different. I prefer Richter who I think gets the core of the music better and transitions from section to section more seamlessly. I like them all though to be honest. I think it is probably one of the Top 5 pieces ever written for the piano and maybe my favorite.

This is great piano skill. But the piece sounding like lounge piano music, not so relaxing, but to enliven the lounge a bit while one holds a drink in the hand.

Extraodinary originality of Pletnev! He adds notes in the base, adds transitions, adopts ideas of Ravels orchestration, plays a totally different pedal than is traditionally played (deliberately unclear at many places to create a monstrous sound), silently depresses base notes to create extra resonance of simpathetic strings, create an effect of real bells ringing from the cathedral by dislocating voices on the time line and more ... I wish I heard this live! He's really one of the very few original pianists. Hats off!

The scales sound faster than the tempo. I wasn’t sure in the beginning, what he was actually going to play. Accented differently . Oh well, makes a change. He was carefully taking aim on the final D.
