Hofmann is just great, I'm sure his sound is pure Beethoven. The other modern pianists are envious

Rachmaninoff called Hofmann the greatest living pianist of his time. Hofmann simply inherited the "violent" approach adopted by Beethoven and Anton Rubinstein yet he still intrepreted the music faithfully. Those like Arthur Rubinstein and modern audiences who dislike Hofmann's dynamics simply don't agree that "violent" approach and probably won't like Beethoven's and Anton Rubinstein's interpretations either.

Yes. Gilels in Seattle, and Gieseking's in the 1930's. I like Moiseivitch and Schnabel's also.

If we can go back with time machine to challenge Rachmaninoff's, Anton Rubinstein's, and Beethoven's views, we simply find perception and tastes change with time.

amazing technique but i don't like the interpretation of the piece
@themusicalgerbil19211 жыл бұрын
No sorry, right from the start I just don't like this interpretation. I don't deny Hofmann's technique, but I just don't agree with some of his interpretations.
