Al Kaline was my sports idol growing up. I caught the end of his career. I went to my first game in 1971. It was a birthday present for me when I turned 9 years old. We played the Cleveland Indians. The Tigers lost 3-1.. but I went home a happy kid.. because Al hit a homerun. I was convinced he hit it for me on my birthday. I'll never forget it. Thank you for sharing this. Brings back a lot of memories.

I remember reading a magazine interview years ago with Wayne Gretzky and the interviewer asked him when you were a kid, which team did you most want to play for. And Wayne said the Detroit Tigers.

Sometime back around 1957 or 1958, a rumor made the rounds in Detroit about a possible trade between the Tigers and the Yankees that would have sent Al to New York. Supposedly the Yankees would have dealt such players as Jerry Lumpy, Norm Sebern, Elston Howard, and several other 2ed and 3ed string players in order to acquire Kaline. However, the Yankees quickly put these rumors to rest, stating they had no intention of making such a trade.

Crystal Whitaker was Homeless, and desperate for a new man, since her 1st husband divorced her, than she was engaged to a tall dark handsome young man, and when his parents met Crystal, they made him break up with her and said “no you’re not marrying her”” fake JW and a Narcissist . Than she had not got her settlement from her divorce with Lou Whittaker, so she was broke and homeless. She conned my pop into Eloping!!! She isolated my pop from that point on but it’s gotten worse since Pandemic, I was raised in the JW religion and her ways are not of Jehovah. She is hiding my dad from the family bcuz we can see right through her. She even made my pop leave his congregation, without saying goodbye, that is not like my dad. She made him change his wardrobe, get rid of his ‘Baby’ his Classic Car…. She brought Alcohol into the home knowing my Pop is a Recovering Alcoholic. This is only the least of her selfish ways, she is a horrible person. She changed the family home landline number we had for years, to a new number so no one could get a hold of him, family in Texas write him letters over and over and my dad does not get them. The family Gardner we had him for years and years he was like FAMILY, this B fired him…. She’s a Joke!!! Her excuse for me not to see or talk to my pop is that I’m Disfellowshipped, but so was her daughter who moved into our family home, plus she was pregnant with No father of her baby in the picture. If my pop can’t talk to a disfellowshipped family member, than the same should go for Crystal….that’s a complete CONTRADICTION of why my pop can’t talk to his own daughter ‘ME’ very ungodly Oh and she loves XXX was told she was in porn too. Wouldn’t doubt it, but sad my pop made a poor decision as he was lusted to the marriage.

Sweet Lou Whitaker you mean to tell Martinsville, Virginia that you allowed your alcoholic drunk sister to attend, such a embarrassment to even have her there drunken!

He didn't start talking about Martinsville, Virginia until now that he is a broke joke and wanting to use Martinsville, Virginia to help him get HOF to gain extra on his monthly check! A big show boat back then and now he wants to be humble being broke!
