Truely the best music ever created he is the best artist in history

You can tell that the moment he gets behind a harp and starts plucking the strings the real man behind the talent comes forth. Such a talented man.

I had a chance to buy a harp for $20 but I did not know how to glue it back together. It wasn't broken. The glue had just come undone. Darn fool.

A true performer with brilliance and style. Harpo lives forever in heaven and our hearts. I life he was as gentle as his character, and could play many instruments simply by tapping his knowledge of music.
@George_uh_Glass Жыл бұрын
I believe he is indeed actually playing all of those instruments 😊 Genius. I read he could play almost any instrument.

I did not know Harpo was left-handed (assuming that is he playing violin and cello in this clip). Whoever was playing violin would have to have had a special violin made with the chin-rest on the left side to accommodate a left-handed violinist - a rarity in the 1940's when left-handedness was frowned upon as "sinister." I have read that Harpo could play six instruments; in the Marx Brothers' various movies; he plays harp, piano, clarinet (once in Cocoanuts), and penny whistle (once in At the Circus). Maybe violin and cello were the other two instruments. Combined with his pantomime comic skills, Harpo may have been the most talented performer in cinematic history.

nice looking children. Part of the shtick which added to the humor was the thick lower east side jewish slang and accents. And YES i remember it well as when I was young many still had it. easily trained to change but they would not have been themselves without it Part of the local cultural color of old NYC for us WASPS and others. They were wonderful and not a questionable word passed their mouths.

Harps are still very popular in Austrian and Bavarian folk music. If you search KZbin for "austria folk music harp" you will find several videos, and then once you get into it, the algorithm will keep you well supplied.

In his autobiography, he wrote that he felt rather ashamed of this technique during the movie part of this life as he later learned how to properly play the harp.
That first song he played sounded a little like fluff by black sabbath

The book, Minnie's Boys, talks about Chico getting piano lessons and there was only money enough for one. Harpo taught himself to play piano and harp. Excellent book, probably out of print. It was quite thick and our public library kept for years. I read it many times and wish I owned it.

Harpo was never accepted by trained harpists because he was self taught. His mother sent him his first harp because she knew he could play it. They sniggered at his technique and called him amateurish. He took harp lessons as an older man to improve his playing and never gave it up.
