I bought a cheap thing with a long handle - it happened to be a mop - and taped it to a 5' stepladder so the end of the handle was maybe 2' above the top of the ladder. We can still use it as a ladder. I then put the bag of fluids on a coat hanger and put the coat hanger into the hole in the end of the handle.

I know people always worry about what its like for the animal, especially on cows because its so hard to tell if they are just scared or it hurts. Dogs, much more than cattle, have extremely high intelligence and highly developed emotions, and have actually specifically evolved to communicate them in a way humans can understand. Well, 1:01. That dog absolutely does not care and is not in any significant discomfort. And its clearly happy that its feeling so much better. I dont think theres nearly as much discomfort as relief. Even without numbing agents the abcesses themselves hurt far more than a poke from a needle would.
