Corporate greed is the true issue when it come to gaming industry. I can't imagine that devs don't know how to make good game anymore. But maybe we should stop buying with closed eyes the games of the same greedy compagnies who care more about investors than player base and their employees. There is a lot of criticism against modern video games wich are justified without throwing the whole industry under the bus.

Sure, there are people with depression and stuff who don't enjoy stuff they used to, and the existence of short form media has probably made our attention spans shorter, but surely there are so many other genres that one person could try out. Or play like different games? For me I just have this little snail in my head telling me to play a game and I just do it, lol. If im bored i dont play the game at all I just play a different one

No offense but I feel like this guy somehow missed the mark on a lot of those videos. If you watch the majority of them, they never claim that all games are bad nowadays or that people only play the same type of games then get bored with them. Anyone who's been playing games for over a decade knows that we are in the golden age of gaming with such a broad spectrum to choose from. The actual point of those videos is why gaming isn't fun (FOR SAID PERSON) anymore and gives a good advice on FOMO and the feeling of having to finish every single game whilst purchasing more and more newer releases thus further increasing the backlog of games. While I agree the titles can be clickbait to an extent, I'm not gonna pretend like they're complete BS and don't offer some relevant advice on how to prioritize your habits. I used to love playing SP games more than MP and still buy new games but just find I'm much more easily discouraged to finish them if I get brick-walled or burnt out along the way. Now I usually only end up playing something for a few hours if the boys are hopping online. Idk, people can hate my comment all they want but I feel like I've put enough thousands of hours into a variety of games to have some semblance of what I'm talking about. Anyway, glad everyone else is still able to enjoy whichever type of game they're playing and I hope I can get back to that state one of these days.

This video really fell off halfway through. Old games are definitely better. It's not nostalgia; I didn't get to play many video games growing up, so I missed out on a lot of classics like Bioshock, Silent Hill, the early CoD games, etc. Having played them *recently* as an adult for the first time, most of the old games I play actually are much better than modern games. I don't have any childhood nostalgia for these games, they're just higher quality. As for the comment about "spoilers," I've never heard anyone make that argument before, and it honestly just sounds like a non-sense strawman you made up. If you look at the popular KZbin channels that criticize modern games, it's for sloppy writing, poor level design, bad dialogue, repetive gameplay, and woke propaganda. Not sure where you got the thing about "spoilers" from.

I feel like these people have just completely grown out of video games in general, and they’re completely unwilling to try anything outside of the most popular AAA games and live service shooters.

I find that I go in cycles. I’ll go a while without gaming because I get bored of it, but I’ll move on to something else like reading books or maybe watching KZbin. In time I’ll come back to play games because I’ve taken a break and something is sparked my interest. I don’t worry if I don’t find something fun, I just find something fun and tell gaming seems like fun again. If you don’t like something or don’t feel like doing it then don’t do it unless it’s something that you have to do like work or the hygiene. Please don’t forget the hygiene. 😂

People meme on dudes that only play Nintendo games, but I'd take those sheltered goofballs over people who only play Minecraft, Fortnite, Fifa, and CoD. At least they don't hate themselves for their choices and blame the entire industry for their laziness and unwillingness to try something new.

A user on the Steam Community said something very fitting on that topic. That person and I agree that there are "plenty of fish in the gaming sea. But these people complaining about gaming being dead don't want fish, they want Moby Dick. They don't want a game to do A, B or C. They want Game XYZ to do A, B as well as C."

Honestly, "maturing" is somewhat of a reasonable argument. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking as if "gaming is for teenagers lol", but in the sense that we, as people, grown up in changing part of or interests and obligations, there are differente stakes to be hold and that's okay, changing is a part of development, maybe founding new hobbies is a good thing, it may even make you enjoy videogames more when you come back to try it again.

Yup, you ask any person that parrots this idea that gaming is dead and without fail they all have a bullshit made up excuse for why every game they’ve never tried is bad and not for them and they exclusively stick to one small section of games that can’t possibly keep them interested anymore. No attempt to do anything fresh and different because they have a prejudice about every game, either too childish or too casual or too woke or whatever other dumb reason. The way I would describe it is that people are comfortable in their misery. They are bored of the games they play but they entertain themselves by whining about it and by watching way too much online content that whines about it. This applies to life in general, if you let things stagnate you will lose enjoyment and interest in anything.

Competetive gaming wasn't fun anymore. So, I played more and more singleplayer. When there's a drought, I still got some good coop or sim racing lined up tonpuck up the slack. Also, nothing beats hoping into ANY game with a bunch of friends. Even the most SHIT games are fun with friends.

the tekken 8 opinion makes me think how it's fair to value games not just as the disc or files you downloaded, but also the playerbase and fandom, community, social context, even personal experiences even offline single player games are affected, the "I like this game but the fandom, ohhh the fandom" argument unironically holds some water

Multiplayer games aren't fun b/c the player base have made every game highly competitive. Modern games aren't fun b/c their mid and overprice. You know what I found more enjoyable more then not? Retro games. I find that Retro games spark my interest more then any modern day game or multiplayer game. Its a breath of fresh hair with none of the challenges, events, or battle passes. Its just you and the game. No meta. No builds. No exploit skips. Just your skill playing the game.

you were far more forgiving to Senua's Saga than I was. But I agree that it's stylisation is currently without compare; Ninja Theory knows how to do high fidelity as an artstyle rather than an obligation (and their previous work shows they absolutely aren't limited to it). With how down to a tee NT has their atmostsphere and visual style I really think it's a shame they aren't just making survival horror games. anyway, yeah Mouthwashing and 1000xRESIST are my joint GOTYs for basically opposing reasons: one of the tightest and most precise narratives vs one of the broadest and diverse. Both amazing.
