How cool! I'm a pilot living on Saipan right now and came across this when researching the plane displayed in front of Plumeria Steakhouse--N102SF! Learning of your dad and the history of the island... thank you for sharing!!!

Opening looks like Manatee Springs near Chiefland. There's a boardwalk leading to the Suwannee River. Guy lived in Old Town, not too far from these springs. Then on to Cedar Key, on the Gulf of Mexico and then to the river for a boat ride. Its a beautiful area. Guy chose well in the final years of his historic life.

Jack off Obama never approved Mr Gabaldons CMOH for holding the US military record (1,500+)of most enemy captures by a single man! I bet if Gabaldon was black or white he would have been awarded with 100 CMOH. I hate to bring up the race card but I have no other option or excuse to why he was denied while a Anglo-Saxon American who only captured 80 soldiers was rewarded the CMOH!

Awarding the Medal of Honor is an intense process the President does have final say in presentation (he cannot award it under his own accord or will) but is It is a long chain for an award and there are thousands of cases some that are deserving can be rejected.this how the process goes Part I Chain of Command (1).First there needs to be a number of witness to an act to warrant of the awarding of a medal of honor (same goes for other valor awards), there then has to be a recommendation for the award in a time frame after action (2 years Army and Air force) (3 year for the Marine Corps and Navy) by those who were participants in the action or the commanding officer of said individual. Then it goes to the Company commander (CO), then to Battalion (CO), Regimental (CO) , Brigade (CO) Divisional (CO) Corps(CO) then to operational Command (Centcom Socom eg) then to the Decorations Board they then proceed to investigate usually an active duty field grade officer maj, Lt Col, Col is assigned to the task, the matter takes about an average of 18 months of repeated investigation analysis and review it will either approve, or approve lesser decoration or no Decoration at all. (2).After approval by the decorations board it goes up to the Service Chief for approval in this case the commandant then to the Secretary of the navy for approval then to the Secretary of the Navy then to the President. Part II If it after the time window of two or three years from action a congressperson can then introduce legislation of an individual or group of individuals to have it reviewed it then has to pass the house (Sec 1130 title 10 ) then the Service Secretary orders to Decorations board of that service to investigate the matter once again going back to the whole recommendation process as stated above . Mr Galbadonos medal had been recommended for Upgrade in 2007 (before Obama took office) however no action was taken it is still in review the military does not comment unless a decision has been made. A MOH is lengthy process it took Teddy Roosevelt almost 100 years for his medal for actions on San Juan hill and it took Alonzo Cushing had to wait a 151 years after Gettysburg to be awarded the medal. BTW what proof do you have that Obama Shit-canned the award and not the docrations board?

It's really sad because Mr. Gabaldon thought he was at the actual bomb loading pits and he was not. If he had gone a little further down the road, he would have come to the actual bomb pits that have a glass enclosure over them. I'm not sure what he was looking at but it was not the atomic bomb loading pits.

Guy Gabaldan was with his own family for 12 yrs. and about 4-5 yrs. with the Japanese family. While there is no doubt the Japanese family influenced him , he lived longer with his Mexican family and therefore formed by them. The japanese family had a son who did not become a hero in WWII.

No didnt say that, I am just giving some balance to your idea that because he has mexican heritage that somehow thats the reason he was a brave soldier. There are other important influences which you ignore. Not least his ability to speak Japanese and his knowledge of Japanese culture which enabled him to get the Japanese to surrender and which resulted in his award for bravery

If these were indeed the actual bomb loading pits, they are very different from what they appear today. The actual pits are open but covered with aluminum and glass frames. There are numerous videos of the bomb pits on YT today and these do not look like the bomb pits I have seen.

I was on Tinian the summer of 1984 doing amphibious landing exercise with Alpha co 1stbn 1stmar. I took photos of the two bomb pits, destroyed Japanense officers quarters, and pillboxes. We found an unexploded torpedo that had hit the beach and been sitting there for 40 years. No book or museum can replace actually being there. I still get the photo's out from time to time and show them off. Cpl. Michael McDonald Aco. 1stbn 1stmar 1981-1985
