Thank You for posting this. I Met Ohana in Monterey Park at the memorial service. I was the one that brought the WWII Marine uniform and placed the M1 garand in the ground. I look forward to seeing the monument to your dad. Let me know if i can help in any way. Moi-

The movie "Hell To Eternity" is my favorite WWII movie. I have not seen it on TV in a while. I wish they would show it again...instead I get to watch Independence Day over and over and over and over...Don't these stations have the budget to buy more movies????

Why hasn't he gotten the big noise and the movie's that Tennessee's Sgt. York got from his WW 1 deal where he captured just 100 German's by himself.

@22grena Liutenant Colonel Alfred Robles was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism in the Vietnam War. Mr.Rascon was born in Chihuaha,Mexico and he was not raised by Japanese or Germans.

No didnt say that, I am just giving some balance to your idea that because he has mexican heritage that somehow thats the reason he was a brave soldier. There are other important influences which you ignore. Not least his ability to speak Japanese and his knowledge of Japanese culture which enabled him to get the Japanese to surrender and which resulted in his award for bravery

Guy Gabaldan was with his own family for 12 yrs. and about 4-5 yrs. with the Japanese family. While there is no doubt the Japanese family influenced him , he lived longer with his Mexican family and therefore formed by them. The japanese family had a son who did not become a hero in WWII.

I am giving some credit to his good upbringing by Japanese Americans. Which also contributed toward his attitude of patriotism. He wasnt brought up by mexicans.

@22grena Mr.Gabaldon had knoledge of Japanese culture but it would have been useless without his courage and bravery. Nice of you to take the time to undermine Gabaldon's heroic deeds.
