The first Europeans to arrive in Nigeria weren’t slave traders. They were just merchants. The slave traders were already in Nigeria the Europeans just bought what they had for sale.

curry is a seasoning mix, not a meal. saying things like " have a curry".... is like saying " have a Mrs Dash" or " have a "McCormick", but with out the brand specificness. it only makes sense is you use it as an adjective, not a noun, saying things like " curry noodles", "curry chicken" ect.... using "curry" as a noun to describe an entire dish makes no sense. PS. coconut NEVER belongs in curry, nor yogurt.

The reason why filipino foods is not that famous I think is because it’s mixed with other cultures. They don’t really have their own”traditional dish” it’s like you take this n that from other countries and make it your own. Like Vietnamese we have Pho which is known as a Vietnamese dish. Can’t say we took it from some other countries.

My grandparents were Tamil refugees from Burma (Myanmar) I can safely say that the Burmese cuisine is the only cuisine in many countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand etc.) that has no Tamil food influence, there is no fusion food here. There is still a large Tamil community in Myanmar and some foods like Dosa and vada exists. In Tamilnadu itself we have huge Burma colonies and we love to eat Burmese 'Attho', 'Mohinga' and more names I don't recall. ♥️👍 Fun Fact: Myanmar is the only country in the world where people can't own or ride a two wheelers! (except for some Military personnel)

30:54 Persian didn't come from Tamil. It's the other way around. They belong to two distinctive language groups. Persian belongs to Indo-European family, Tamil does not. Most likely the word came from Proto Indo-European (PIE) before the Indian and Iranian branches split.

Interesting. Several years ago I stayed at a hotel very close to the Huay Khwang MRT station. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary about the area, but then again I think it was only my second time in Bangkok. The Malatang and pulled noodle restaurants have been popping up here, all over the place. There's one Malatang restaurant I know of that's halal (most aren't), but pretty much all the pulled noodle places are. My favorite thing to eat at the pulled noodle restaurants are the stuffed dumplings.

If you haven't been there, there's one fascinating market called Sang-Ka-See Flea Market - probably the biggest flea market that I've ever witnessed (except the Loy Krathong in CMX where the whole city basically turns into a giant market) It's a flea market (in BKK of course), almost everything is sold as well as food (wet market) but surprisingly, it's so neat and clean. I guess it's just generally Thai thing lol The best time to go is Sunday night from 4pm - closing starts around 8pm. Parking is available but super crowd. What fascinated me the most was that I couldn't managed to find toilets in that giant maze lol I only assumed that OTR haven't been to this market, simply because there's no contents with the market; maybe you've already been there, but it seemed superb local (as the location lol) and I was the only forigner there. I went there last night and am definitely returning on coming Sunday night.

I'm a big fan of your channel, I watched 85% of all of your content and am consistently amazed by the quality and the effort you all put into it. I now understand the depth of the food and of course, I went to the several areas you've mentioned, I managed to have Pad Sataw thanks for the recommendation!! (Turns out, when you find a stall that sells Sataw beans: 1) First you just BUY it, then 2) TAKE it to the restaurant and 3) ASK them to cook it with the prawn. A kind local lady helped me taste them, which cost 70 baht for the menu (Sataw costs 40 baht)). If there's anyone looking for Sataw dish, and if no one sold them, I wanted to let them know there's a way!!

Used to be a big fan of Huy Fong's sauce, but their quality and availability have been lacking for several years now. Recently discovered Underwood Ranches' Sriracha, which is made by the farmer who had previously supplied Huy Fong for ~30 years; their sauce tastes as good as Huy Fong's had ever tasted, perhaps better.

T10:42. My theory, as a FilAm: Most Filipinos who came to the New World were NOT cooks. They were surgeons, doctors, engineers, nurses, military-grade warriors....not restaurant owners. We didn't have to open up a resto to make ends meet. These college graduates were here for the money. I bet at least family bit the bullet and became the town's turo-turo spot, but for the most part, our FilAm ancestors just cooked at HOME. We kept our recipes from the general American public and it's biting us in the ass right now because ya'll didn't cook. JS. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I live in Seattle. At Archipelago (Filipino Resto), each seat costs over $300. And this place is jumpin! Why? Because they use our cultural notes as valuable pieces of gold to trade with non-Filipinos. If you tried this on Filipinos, they would just not show up and be koriput.

Hi, this is such an amazing video!!! (I’m a subscriber from other account lol) I’m so touched with the origin expansion part🙏 I wanted to ask, if it’s possible to use that part of the video to help (be part of) creating mine? I’m just not sure what the general rules are, but I assumed it could simply to ask for permission🫨 I can see you’re quoting the videos that you’ve used in the video- that’s also something I should do? Thank you xx

KZbin rules are 1) you can’t use more than 10% of someone else’s video, 2) someone else’s video can’t be the core of your own video (if that makes sense- like, you can’t just present someone else’s content as your own), and 3) you can’t use any music that plays in my video unless you also pay for the license. I think that’s it? Thanks for asking. No, it’s not required to credit the video creator, but we do it because it’s the right thing to do

That is the beauty of it. It wants to be found from where you will feel at ease. At Home. Even some don't want to call themselves as cooks or chefs. But, among them are our hidden artisans of filipino culinary. It makes sense, You may not see our cuisine everywhere. But, to where we grow and thrive and to where we build our hopes and dreams. At Home.

And finally in the 1990`s the hot chilli disseminated and became very popular in this easternmost tip & a bit off of the great Asian cntinent. People born in and before 40`s in Japan has little affinity to hot and spicy foods in general. But starting in 1990`s young people started to put 10X times of chillis in the curry, and also Indian and Thai restaurants and dishes has been becoming popular since. Thanks for a very nice (hot) movie.

It's so cool to realize that in addition to how rice is important to Thai like me, it's history in the states also connected to Charlottesville where I lived. Another work worth watching every second, well researched. Keep up the good work! Wahoo!

5:39 According to Statista, 12% of adults aged 20 and older in the Philippines were obese or overweight in 2022. However, a survey between July 2021 and June 2022 found that 38.6% of adults aged 20 and 59 were diagnosed as obese or overweight. Obesity rates have been increasing in the Philippines over the past two decades, with overweight and obesity among adults almost doubling since 1998 The US is at 41.9% with a GDP that dwarfs the Phillippines. This is kind of alarming.

It’s a nice island but Koh Kret has the same vibe without the recent development and is a lot more compact if you just want to go around for food, coffee and some countryside vibe. There are better islands and beach towns that are still mostly to completely unspoiled by foreigners but still have decent infrastructure but I won’t name them. Nothing as obvious as Bang Krachao, not sure how it’s considered forgotten when you can see it from like half the tall buildings in Bangkok. Shame all these content creators help ruin these places to make a few bucks.
