For rare 90s cards, the grade is almost irrelevant - difference in condition btwn 8 or 9 is negligible and owning an example is 99% of demand not pop/condition chasing

Just my two cents being a vintage fan and dabbling in modern, because modern is so hot, sometimes it leads to deals on vintage - especially from dealers looking to unload vintage to buy modern. Great show again and conversation, Leighton.

A generational card. 1952 Topps Mantle, regardless of age, is a card everyone in the hobby knows about and wants to be a part of. It symbolizes baseball card collecting and why it is special.

I like sgc more than PSA, but I'm wondering why you chose sgc over PSA. It's not right but postwar PSA cards sell for much higher prices. This card in a PSA 10 probably would have sold for 5 million dollars more. The set registry guys would have paid 20 million for this card

Vintage cards like this are almost surreal, not specifically because of the grade per se but because of the condition.. Every now and again I'll come across a 70+ year-old vintage card that's so fresh and crispy - if not for your own knowledge and experience - you would otherwise think it was a counterfeit or a convincing reprint printed just 10 minutes ago.. I don't know what it is (perhaps the environment +) but some cards can defy natural aging somehow.. Not that a little bit of patina will affect a pristine vintage cards overall grade, but look - 99.9% of cards are going to age naturally - I mean you can take a gem mint paper card from today and place it on a shelf - not touch it for 50 years - then come back and that card is going to show natural aging despite not being touched for 5 decades and this specimen seems to be in that rare group..

A good case on "Does provenance matter?" is the 1952 Topps Mantle that sold on Fanatics in December 2024. It was an SGC 6.5 and it was once owned by Mickey Mantle and sold for $192K. Heritage 2 months early sold an SGC 6.5 for $180K. Both cards have almost identical eye appeal and the one owned by Mickey Mantle got $12K/6.7% more than the one not owned by Mantle. For people with deep pockets that's not really a big difference. If I were one of the those people with deep pockets I am taking the one that was once owned by Mickey Mantle for $12K more.

Thx for the example and I totally agree. I’d absolutely want the example with provenance for a slight premium !

speaking of not having unlimited time, the auction houses need to be brought into 21st century and end these dumb extended bidding windows of 15 min intervals that last until 3am in the morning. There's a 3-4 week marketing window for people to places bids, set a time and date for end of auction and have it go to highest bidder. maybe with one single 30 min extended bidding window, but it's nuts!
@leightonsheldon946916 күн бұрын
It’s a tough balancing act to make all the consignors and bidders happy. If you don’t want to stay up late you can always leave a ceiling bid

Impressive content, Just Collect, Inc.. Looking forward to seeing your next upload. I tapped the thumbs up icon on your video. Keep up the amazing work! Your insights on eBay's algorithm were particularly enlightening. Have you considered how the recent shifts towards live commerce might further influence selling strategies on platforms like eBay?
