Oh I’m gonna purchase this book about my beloved Benjamin however would you or someone else please tell me as to why there isn’t any live performances of Benjamin with his earlier bands?? Surely that tv show would have known Benjamin would go onto bigger and better things. Did they not record any please tell me. As a true fan of Benjamin and the Cars, this would be a treasure to watch. Thx. RIP Benjamin ❤

All the videos I’ve seen have his date of death as 10/03/2000. But his actual headstone on his grave notes his date of death as 10/04/2000. I don’t think the headstone would be incorrect.

Some people were just born to be great and they do the things we all wished we could, Benjamin was definitely one of those few, I bet people that knew Benjamin before they hit the big time saw that in him.

Hey! Thank you so much for this great compilation of pica of Benjamin. Well done. I'm a female, and absolutely no doubt that the man was a real looker. As I get older (still listening to the Carrs!!!) I've come to see beyond the superficial and honor the facts about his character. He was devoted to not only his craft but to his child. His endurance in the end, battling cancer is a real inspiration for alot of folks going through that difficulty. I'm 9 years free, but it was a close call at times. So his courage makes me humble and grateful for another day. Thank you Ben for all these things, RIP.❤❤❤

A very special thank you to Joe for a fantastic book! I've read many rock n roll biographies and yours was direct, fact-filled, entertaining, heartwarming and most of all, respectful. Ben was so private that, aside from basics, we know little about his youth, his adolesence, his military life, girlfriends - any era of his life. He wanted it that way. And because everyone respected Ben, everyone respected his wish for privacy, even after his death. He never boasted, a very humble, private guy. Even though you INTERVIEWED EVERY PERSON WHO KNEW BEN, you never had a bad word to write about Ben. You respected his wish about his privacy (even with Ben being dead). I think of Ben Jr: how he lost his only sibling and his father, who at vulnerable age of 5, worshipped his daddy above all. imagine being 5 yrs old and being told, you'll never see dad again. Absolute confusion, devastating loss and never-ending longing, as he watches other kids with their dads. Now imagine a fan - a stan - obsessed with Ben, who travels the country worshipping him, even though he's dead, not a chance of meeting him. This blogger then wrote stories so horrible about Ben and put them out into the universe for Ben Jr to find. Stories from a bitter, unsuccessful man, stuck in the past, Jim. So now thanks to a blogger, Jim gets to shape Ben's legacy, all thanks to "sweet" purple June. Twenty yrs dead she chose to publish sordid tales by a bitter man who was left behind in the wake of folk music, but "sweet" purple june believed smearing Ben was of utmost importance. She demolished his reputation. Even Ric, who Ben despised and fell out with, never did that to Ben!!!

Reading the book right now, having finally caught up with it. I was trying to read John Lydon's Anger is An Energy but it's so badly written and organized, I gave up on it. I mean, it's truly atrocious. A lot of rock books are just not good. I'm about 40 pp. into the Ben Orr book and it's fascinating. I'm a huge Cars fan from way back and I didn't know much about Ben's Cleveland days and history. I didn't even know a thing about Upbeat the TV show, given that I grew up here on LI NY. I read a bit about it in the Alex Chilton biography. I managed to see The Cars only once in 1988 at Madison Square Garden. A good show, but I wish I'd seen them back in the heyday. My friend Erik saw them at Forest Hills for the Heartbeat City tour. He's one of of THE biggest Cars fans of all time.
