I am thinking I'd rather play Just One with family over the holidays.

We play a ton of Zilch (Iike Farkle) with our in-laws. They'll play many rounds of Zilch in a night and this is very similar - take the points or push one more time. Plays very quickly and well with 4+.

I thought this was a clickbait title for the game video... then I found out that the game box has the clickbait title itself.
@TheGameBoyGeeksКүн бұрын
Yeah I don’t do click bait :)

I would say it is most like the game Pairs - just with a few special cards in it! But a standard Pairs deck also comes with the free online rules compendium where there must be 50 rules variants!
@TheGameBoyGeeksКүн бұрын
Yes I have pairs and actually meant to mention that in the video! Although i think there is one loser and many winners in pair’s and the continuous round rules is the best way to play.
@teddyrynning5561Күн бұрын
Sounds like it really copied a lot from Hit! / No mercy by Reiner Knizia (but without the stealing points from opponents mechanic)
@TheGameBoyGeeksКүн бұрын
This is basically "Pairs" from James Ernest with special ability cards.
@TylerDeLisleКүн бұрын
That's what I thought. It's Hit but instead of stealing cards built into the push your luck, you get take that cards to play on their turn? Sounds much worse. There is also a "No Mercy Extreme" version that adds special cards of some sort.

This or Incan Gold?
@astod7792Күн бұрын
Both!
@TheGameBoyGeeksКүн бұрын
I like the game Push better than this (for 2-4 players), but this one can play higher player counts. I think for mass market part atmosphere's this would probably go over better than Incan Gold (even though I think Incan Gold is a better game).
@gianfranco4789Күн бұрын
@@TheGameBoyGeeks had the same feeling about Flip 7 vs Incan Gold. Just ordered Flip 7 to confirm it. About Push, I really hated the game with 6 players, I can see how it would be good with 4 or less, but I really need this type of game to play at least up to 6.

Thank you for comparing it to Awkward Guests, which is my favorite "Clue-like" game, but I find it is a pain to set up and take down because of all the cards. On the other hand, there are so many scenarios in Awkward Guests, there is no way I will ever play them all. But, all in all, I think I will add Kronologic to my Christmas list!!
@TheGameBoyGeeks9 күн бұрын
If you like awkward guests then also check out my reviews for “The Key” from Haba. They are also like awkward guests but better. Especially the prison one as it’s very difficult.

Why do these publishers insist on making games so ugly..the game board looks like it was designed in windows 98 😅
@Berndr5 күн бұрын
dont be like that , there were some gorgeous games for Win 98, plus Win 98 was a platform not a designer tool, game artists would have still used some version of Photoshop for texturing, most likely 3D Max for sculpting and some early days coding tools ...

Well these chips are labeled for the amounts used in the game which might make a difference.

I gave up getting the nicer looking edition and will just have to be ok with my (second edition?)gray box that has slightly too dark graphics. It just needs to be graphically lightened up. Also, it has no “star” in the middle, or even arrows like in the white box. You just go left or right like in the white box edition. However, I purchased a white box edition that was even worse. The graphics were even darker than this one, to the point it felt like the game was set at night. I’ll just be happy with my edition and know somewhere, there is a slightly nicer one.

If you have the 1960's version, you'd need ot buy the full 60th Anniversary version. The Upgrade kit is just for those that bought the 2023 Renegade Games Version.

I love this game but have 1 minor grievance and that is the reputation: if you don't focus hard on gaining reputation, you will lose many points to those who were able to snag it from the few areas to get it from. It wouldn't be so bad EXCEPT the 2 players highest on the track score a bunch of bonus points (in addition to higher points they already receive from being high on the track! Bonus of a bonus!) I would've just eliminated the 1st place/2nd place points bonus since being high on the track is already greatly rewarding versus being low. Basically, you can tell who's going to win early on in most games I've played, which is more than 10.
@andymcguire23714 күн бұрын
Oh, the above can be prevented if ALL players a) know ahead of time just how important rep is, and b) go after separate goals/regions of the map).

The chance aspect with the dice is what makes this game enjoyable as all plans can go to pot..2 low rolls could be a sprained ankle whilst making a dash for it for example..If everything was clear cut once an escape was initiated then the enjoyment factor would wear off considerably
@karlwebb479915 күн бұрын
The luck in this game cannot be over stated. In every 4 player game, and at setup, someone has 2 relevant pieces of correct information of the guilty folder and the other players just don't. It fails to be an actual deduction game when you draw cards that just let you directly look at the answer of the guilty folder. After 2 games you realise it is the same game every time and taking 20 mins to play means has zero room to be clever. I am a big fan of the books and even met the author, the game however was my biggest disappointment of year. At least I appreciate this review highlights better deduction games in Kronologic and Sleuth.

3:30 Those cards look a bit bendy. How was the component quality? Were the cards received pre-bent? Are these cards going to stand up to dozens or hundreds of games?
@TheGameBoyGeeks21 күн бұрын
Being in a very low humidity desert of Arizona usually boards and cards change with the humidity changing from the warehouses which are usually in the Midwest. I shot this the day after it arrived so it likely didn’t have time to adjust to the humidity differences. As to holding up they aren’t shuffled and played like a normal card game so I don’t see why they wouldn’t hold up over Time and They should lay flat once they adjust to the new humidity level

I can't find any information about chip weight. It can make a huge difference, and I'm worried that the fact that we can't find this information anywhere means these are 8g chips. I would totally replace my 2023 copy for this if these were 11g or 14g chips.

Mine Is the Same way. The tray is designed to hold the cards face down. Then you set them up when in play

0:30 I have the 1976 Avalon Hill bookshelf edition (yes! this blue box edition). We got it new when I was a kid. Played it tons with my siblings back then. More recently, I played it a lot with my wife and kids. Nothing in this edition makes me want to get it. Tiles don't slide in my edition. And you are right, we would NEVER play with those power cards. AND why the hell is it $100?!!
