The Mass in B minor or h-Moll-Messe BWV 232, is one of masterpieces by Johann Sebastian Bach that more deeply touches my heart. The composition was completed in 1749, the year before the composer's death. I did not realise before that the second movement of Kantata BWV 29 for choir is the same hymn that is the apotheosis ending of Mass in B minor. In the same way, the divine soprano air of BWV 57 Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen is a variation for choir about the same hymn ending this marvellous Kantata BWV 29 Wir Danken Dir, Gott. Bach always is gifting us with good surprises. Soli Deo Gloria. Amen.

Most of the religious music written in the last couple of centuries is just awful. This sends chills up my spine.

It is a real shame that after the good write-up here, there is no mention of the performers. 👎🏻 especially because the performance is so good!

Here I am, 5 years on, tearfully appreciating Bach's music, including the wonderful vocal tones of Maria Keohane. Why was she not credited in the preamble?

Even without knowledge of the organ tradition, you can just see from the intensity of the organist's playing why they call it one of the most demanding instruments there is. Thank you for uploading this breathtaking performance of one of the most amazing pieces of music ever.

I feel like all the instruments are only accompanying the organist, and the volume of the ensemble slightly eclipses the organ, which is disappointing. but this is only my interpretation

Let me add my view which is not widely kept and it starts with the Indian spiritual concept. According to this concept everything which appear to our eyes including ourselves has been created by the Mother of God or called Mahashakti. She created also the world of music and a few of us are chosen to enter this world with a key, given before birth. This key is an inbuilt intuition by which the chosen persons - we call them composer - can enter this miraculous world and what they hear there is copied and written down in notes. A bit similar was the remark of late August Everding who said that some melodies Mozart must have copied from heaven. With Bach we have a personality who had a key to all sections in this world of music and that explains why he wrote often down what his intuitive mind told him without having the necessity to make any corrections. So composers are not creating anything. They are persons who copy. And then we have the persons with the capacity to perform what the copy persons had written down. And some - here our great performers - succeed to present this in a way that we experience ecstasy. We forget all the personal and global misery and just feel delighted.

I’m my opinion this is Bachs best Cantata. What makes it is the great continuo and strict counterpoint which demonstrates heavily to anyone new to Baroque music, what polyphony is all about. It’s that pleasing to the ear that one has to repeat the video multiple times before sleeping. And Sato is amazing

Super! Bach's true achievement with the sinfonia is the fact that a performance by solo violin without organ and orchestra is not a reduction but a sublimation.
