Excellent review...and that reviewer (whom I've never heard of), the one who wishes he was superman, and appears to spend way too much time and money on his face, if I saw anyone like that walking towards me, I'd cross to the other side of the road. Sadly, despite your deeply thoughtful review (and I just bought MGS V The Definitive Experience for my PS4), I was going to buy Survive, but I steer clear of any game that requires an internet connection. I only have access to mobile broadband, I live right on the edge of service, thus not only is the connection weak, but the new 4\5G disconnects regularly, unlike 3G which was far more stable, but even if I had a solid net connection, I still avoid any game that requires it to play single player.

They need to remove the drm garbage.

The game is a good game, but it is very much just glorified DLC for MGSV. The game has a lot of flaws, the story is executed boringly, and the story feels like Discount Metal Gear. I love the mechanics of the game, enjoy fighting the zombies more than any other Zombie game. I just wish the game had a bit more substance to it.

Always online is a dealbreaker for me buying games.

I have been thinking about trying it but the always online scares me because if the shut down the servers no one will play this again. Sadly in this day and age only the extreme opinios are shown. Either games are masterpieces or garbage. I have belived there is no perfect game. There is a game for everyone but notveveryone will like the same game. I mean Breath of the wild is a universal loved game but it's not for me, I tried to get into it but always stop playing. On the other hand the DMC rebootvis universally hated but I had fun with it(including story).

Remove the micro transaction and the online requirement and we got a banger for no lifer like me.

Might give it a chance, and maybe convince one of my friends to play coop with me at some point.

One of the most fun games I've ever played. Glad I ignored the schmucks. It's a fantastic showcase of what the Fox engine can do when not held back by previous gen hardware. Things like the base defense and customizing layouts was stuff that was supposed to be in MGSV anyway,. The Lord of Dust is one of the few times I've been awestruck by a video game, wondering just how the hell I'm supposed to beat that. Hardest platinum I ever got, but what a ride it was getting there.

Vetra ... I agree, you should always romance Vetra, she's the tough spicky girlfriend that still have a massive soft spot, just for your rider, and her sister. I really loved the scene with the burnt steak, it was so cute and considerate ... If you dont like vetra, you just need to stop trying to romance anyone, because she represents everything about true love. Support, desiring the best for you, and doing things for you, and for you only. I had her for every mission, and on the last one before the endgame fight, she had a quote that marked me to this day while my rider was litteraly killing herself just to close some stupid doors : Rider please stop ! You're gonna die if you continue (in a panicked voice), vetra, sweet,s sweet vetra. Reminded me of tali to be honest.

The whole 'survival' thing was never my thing. That's what killed it for me

MGS V was a mess from both sides. Kojima was appearently spending alot more time with promotional side than actually developping it. Explaining why the budget of the game exploded way above Konami's desires. and considering how long the game was in development. It lends word to how little of a shit Kojima actually gave about making the game. and considering that MG Survive is so much better and has way better gameplay than MGS V. It's really weird when people say Kojima was being held back. Especially since when he was given free reign and studio he made postman pat game that is heralded for story and nothing else. It's also really dumb when people say that "MGS shouldnt have zombies in it" when MGS V basegame has zombies in it when skull units revive dead as zombies.

Most pf your bs is just speculation. Also pw only has 33 story missions the same amount as mgsv. Kojim literally had the mgsv working on his silent hills teaser withoit telling them. Imagine if they spent that time focused on mgsv.

Doing my first playthrough of MGSV and I just crashed in the storm with code talker, they really set up survival pretty well I haven’t touched it myself but from what I hear what went wrong

David Hyater removal by Kojima held me from hating Konami. I got really pissed like many fans because he fired Hayter despite everyone wanted him. I kinda want to buy the game on pc this time after 6 years I played it, forgot about it but it was fun to play...

I don't care what people say, MGSV was not unfinished, or at least, not like how you described it. I just beat game's main story and did about 40% of the side missions, clocking in at about 100 hours. I skipped the repeat missions and made it through all the tapes. Coming from a fan of the games since the very first one for the ps1, MGSV is not only one of the best video game experiences, but it's probably my favorite MGS game, maybe second to 3. That ending, as well as Quiet's, was chef's kiss and, despite not being that big of a fan of the audio tapes, I wouldn't change this game for the world as it felt like a very complete experience that answered most questions.

"I can run continuously for over a minute!" WOW! Did you know? You can run continuously for INFINITY in MGSV! But having annoying stamina systems that make the game more tedious for no reason is TOTALLY good game design!!

What if Kojima worked on this game and then left Konami? Or at least work with Konami after creating Kojima Prod.

honestly refreshing seeing a positive review for this game. but tbh I'll still never play it for the same reason I'll never play a new call of duty, assassin's creed game, or watch a star wars movie They called it "Metal gear" just because they believed a section of the audience will purchase it just because of the title. I would play the hell out of a metal gear solid inspired zombie stealth game on the PC. But I really can't see the project as anything other than the cash grab when you launch a sequel after one of the most publicized firings, and the previous game that turned out to be a massive success

I actually got this game day one and liked it enough to buy it a second time on a different platform. I did hate all the fake negative reviews from people that really did not even play it. Its a decent game and worth a chance.

I got it on release, purely for something new to play in co op with friends. I saw it as a bit of fun for a weekend, but I really enjoyed the singleplayer. MGS is my favourite series and I was genuinely sad when I found out Hayter was kicked out, I found MGSV not to be a stealth game and never finished it. But MGsurvive was a stealth game, had a clear vision and executed it well combining all the elements I enjoy (even some grinding). I saw all those reviews at the time, and that's when I stopped paying attention to reviewers at all and unsubbed from most of them, because they're clearly biased and foster toxicity and ego over all. I was only dissapointed in the lack of content and support but hearing it's since got some extra content am redownloading now.

I noticed a lot of the big gaming youtubers actually suck at games and are only popular because of charisma. This is not a game for people with low attention spans.

I actually enjoyed Metal Gear Survive. If they made the single player longer like adding a final chapter after you destroy the Lord Of Dust where the captain and co find their way home. It could take place in the rest of the Africa map that goes beyond the road leading away from the mansion and the valley, past where the death barrier is.

For the once missing the "Investigation Frost Helgaia" quest fir the Music Box of Memories #9. This is what they need to follow. The purple quest all the way to the Frost Helgaia. This is the only resource I found only that helped finish the clues for me

I was on the bandwagon thinking this game was trash (even though I didn't play it). Over the years I realized I'm a Metal Gear fan, not a Kojima worshiper. I loved AC!D and Portable Ops despite them not being Kojima creations. So why does the other off shoots like Revengeance get a pass but Survive doesn't? I started playing this game recently (was gifted it by a friend and he only payed three dollars for it). Yeah the very beginning is a bit of a slog but it's not a bad game. Not even a bad Metal Gear game I dare say. So far my only real complaint is a lot of the codec talks could have been cutscenes and I wish this game had it's own Metal Gear. I understand why it is what it is but come on... Every Metal Gear game had it's own Metal Gear. Even AC!D did. Other than that I think it's a good game. Not perfect... but pretty good. Here's to hoping Delta is successful and incentivizes Konami to try more new and wacky stuff with the series.

Konami really destroyed any chance of this game getting any love by associating it with Metal Gear. If this was for a new IP I'm certain it could've fared better.
