I've been racing off road rc for close to 20 years now. I lightly got into rc drifting and caught on really quick. I'm currently running a Yokomo RD 2.0. It's a great car a I learned quite a bit pretty fast. My question is this.... When is it time to upgrade? I feel like the plastic chassis is the way to go for me, but I absolutly HATE everything else being plastic and of course I want to upgrade. I also want to start competing as well, so I don't want to be at a disadvantage from the start if the chassis isn't up to par. I don't get sticker shocked easily, racing isn't cheap at all. I just want the best approach. Thank you from a new viewer, and thank you Brett for stopping by!
@yadmah10 күн бұрын
Hey thanks for watching. To start off with, as far as upgrading goes, you have a great chassis to do that with. I like to upgrade to experience different parts and chassis designs. If you watch the stream with Kalai and Brennah, they like to upgrade when they feel like they have reached the maximum potential of their current setup.If you are keen on offroad tuning, then you'll be able to pick and choose which parts that you want to upgrade. As far as the chassis you have, tbh, maybe a good set of shocks is all that's really needed to be competitive. Even the box stock rd2.0 is very good to compete with. Same with the RDX. Both are completely plastic, but very very capable chassis. We are also in the generation of "mix and match" builds. Check out the Kevin with RCO SDC 2024 video and you'll see what I mean. My best advice is ask specific questions to get specific answers and drive with others that can help bring you up to speed.

So inspiring! I’m about 6 months into RC Drifting, however I’m fully committed and a complete sponge to learning. As soon as the comp was over, my vlog series “Road to Super G” started. I’m also running a shark, final form. It would mean the most if both of you could give me a sub/follow as I document the journey as well as share the knowledge I have. I’m very close to Rudy (owner of Bingo RC Designs), and will have him appear throughout the journey as well. Longer story short, you both inspired me to keep grinding, learning and supporting others along the way! Hope to see you both subbed and tuned in! 🤝🫡

That's right. Only 2. From what I've been told, it allows the diff to be more "open" and with less resistance from the extra gears.

They do work well, the fun part of rc drifting for me is testing all sorts of combos. I'll be trying a few other knuckles as well. But my main goal with the ReveD knuckles was to get better Ackerman with 0° toe in the front and eliminating the chassis from wanting to crab walk.

I wanna visit PDX someday. Lookingninto Drift kits kore lately, have many other kinds of RC. This AE kit sparked my interest more. Cinsidering the MST RMX 2.5 , Reve D RDX , Yokomo RD2.0, and this AE kit... if you were to rank those 4 on which would be the best to get for newbies to drifting, what would you rate them? Looking to get my son and I a kit this winter, maybe 2 ofnthe same or maybe 2 different ones to compare. Cheers
@yadmah4 ай бұрын
I’ll cover this on Thursday’s stream this week too. If you have a drift track nearby, then I would highly refer to what is mainly being driven there. The ranking would be also subjective to what you already know. If you are familiar with a bit of tuning, then rd2.0 would be at the top of the list. If not, then rdx would be at the top. The AE kit requires a bit of extra attention. The RMX is last in the list. The real answer is to visit a rc drift track and ask questions. More times than not people will let you drive their cars. That way you can get an idea for yourself. PDX has a good variety of different chassis. RD2.0 being the least represented in your list.
@isaiahfurrow74144 ай бұрын
@@yadmah, thanks for the reply... I live in Idaho, I don't know of any drift tracks any closer than PDX in Portland... maybe we can get something going near me . I've been into RC for a long time, all sorts from planes to crawlers to a bit of bashing, and my son and I have been pretty heavy into offroad racing for a handful of years now. I'll look into this a bit more, I had been previously considering Yokomo and MST RMX, but now I'm kinda leaning towards Yokomo the most. I see there are drift specific servos, and the Yokomo $80 servo and V4 gyro come up as recommended for the AE kit, I'm assuming those would be good picks, but curious about the need for a drift spec speedo vs a normal racing 10th scale speedo, such as a Tekin or a HW XR10Pro, as we have those hanging around. Also have some 17.5t and 13.5t-8.5t motors around, one is a 10.5 Novak that's older and a bit weak... would that or a 13.5t racing motor work? Cheers!

I can tell you the SDC rules make much more sense after competing in this competition when it comes to a long term ranked series. It was an amazing time but much harder to define the really tough calls when it came to hits. I thought it was awesome and a honest test of how well you can come in cold and throw down a solid lap. The battles were crazy too but there really didnt feel like there were rules or anything super well defined. I heard top drivers confused, not upset, about what was happening or decisions made. You definitely need to be much more dialed in during battles of SDC to win and I think looking back at last years will show some big differences but both are ok. I think its awesome having multiple types of comps to enjoy every aspect of the hobby. The CrossGames felt like a fun style event/competition, SDC rules takes away any questions or arguments that will without doubt come up if the rules were the same as crossgames. CrossGames rules seem perfect for onetime big fun events/matsuris. No replays, a few omt's but not real defined rules. It felt like a style battles and it was sick. Proabably not great for a cross country US competition that has multiple qualifying rounds that people are training for thats also streamed live. In my opinion it would take away a lot of the seriousness and credibility for people competing. I think people would be upset and probably not see as big of a reason to keep competing. I've talked to Steve a bit and he truly is trying to do it the right way that keeps it fair and honest for everyone who's working so hard to be a part of this awesome hobby in the US and abroad. Both rule sets have a place and I think people can understand and appreciate both🔥
