It’s weird now to see Dick Van Dyke play this very elderly man from 1964, and now in 2024 (about a week ago from the time of this comment) he just celebrated his 99th birthday and is still kickin’! He’s not at all like this crippling old man he portrays here. He is still a song and dance man! God bless him.

Speaking as an American, I think the tea might have still been suitable for drinking, if one were to have put enough sugar and ice in it. I'll show myself out now. 😂

I know what happened. A number of the founding fathers including Benjamin Franklin insisted there be a debt paid in full…and so it was.

The funny thing is that to play Mr. Dawes, Dick Van Dyke had to be heavily made up to look like a really old man. Today, Dick Van Dyke really looks like Dawes! He wouldn't need any makeup at all to reprise the role!

I love his films but god is he pretentious.
@vraikorrigan23 күн бұрын
He questions the obvious, how is that pretentious? Everyone should do that. To ignore how the media works is to passively participate in their obscenity. Godard is not pretentious at all, he simply has a moral sense that makes him feel obliged to say what he thinks, without fear. He is courageous.

This scene is very well directed. Mr Banks knows he is in a lot of trouble and knows he is gonna get fired for indirectly causing a run in the bank from acting awkwardly to being nervous. The scene being eerily silent also builds up the atmosphere as well with there being awkward silence amongst the board of directors. And it's implied Mr Dawes jnr was forced to act on the board's behalf by his father who pressures him to do so and Mr Dawes jnr is obviously too afraid to stand up to his father implying that Mr Dawes snr despite looking like a frail old man is actually a very merciless man similar to Palpaltine of Star Wars.

Imagine if the joke Mr. Banks told his boss was, “Did you hear about the crazy guy that dipped his balls in shimmery, shiny glitter? Yea. Pretty nuts, right?”
@Swenson19704 ай бұрын
As a mother of two children, I think Mr. Banks needed help in understanding that work is only the means to an end but not THE end. His obsession with wealth, power, and prestige was clearly interfering with his ability to be a good father, and he needed Mary Poppins and Bert to straighten him out. The dramatic change in Mr. Bank's humor from serious to silly like Mary Poppins is similar to the change in Scrooge's personality at the end of "A Christmas Carol."

The one thing I don’t understand about this scene is: why did they destroy Mr. Banks belongings? Was that supposed to mean something? If anyone can answer this for me, I would highly appreciate it.
