Dang, how many basses do you have? We really gotta try to get in touch with Jimmy. He's a family friend and checks in on my aunt every once in a while. I wonder if he'd ever grace his presence on our channels? One day, i'll muster the nerve to ask my aunt. In any case, this is such a great performance. Love that you went to the rods just like my uncle. Black ones too for that matter!!! When we all meet in the sky, I will introduce you to him. And we'll all share a mighty hug brother! God bless you! Wow, how nice of you! I have 2 basses, but no low B 5 string. Jimmy is too good I would embarrass myself if he saw it. But it grooved well. Yes, the Blasticks from the 90's. That is my only pair and they have no more! I have wood ones, but the plastic had a sound. Yeah, I could hear Carlos playing those on this record. Now that me new DAW is up and running, we can do a collab. Probably after I get back from Thailand in Mid Jan. I was spending as much time fixing crashes over actually playing and recording that I didn't even want to do anything with it at all. What a struggle. Now, I should be good. How about we do Shower the People live version. How do you want to proceed. I record my video and send you the file. Then I send you my bass recorded part and you sink them?

Mr.flys2, my wife loves JT, and your drumming just makes it all better. I don’t know anything about playing a bass guitar, but your bassing sure adds a lot to this one. Elk hunting? Did I read that correctly. We have a ton of elk in our area here in South Bend, Washington. I have hunted them but never got anything. Then, I wanted to continue to hunt but not shoot anything, so I took up bow hunting. I figured my chances of shooting anything with a bow were pretty slime, but I was still out in nature hunting. Okay, kind of got off track here for a moment. Anyway, thanks for the great video and I’m sending you and your loved ones the happiest of holiday wishes.❤️🙏👏❤️🙏👏❤️

Thsnks Muff! For the groove, Buddy didn't play a very specific Latin groove on those sections. Listening to Greg Bissonette play his version on burning for Buddy, he uses more of a Mambo or possibly a Songo feel. Look up those grooves and practice them. That will get you into that groove language where this is coming from. Bass drum is king of the tumbao as opposed to a Samba. But a Samba bass drum can work too. So kind of get into that Afro Cuban thing and you will soon have it. Hope that helps!

Mr.JimFlys2, you make everything you do look so easy. I wish I had known to make a little hole first. I had a couple of cymbals that started to crack. I found out that I could make a hole at the end of the spreading crack. Well, my drill bit was bigger and really chews up the cymbal. The good news is that the cymbal was a cheap, bad sounding one. Could a person drill holes and put a bolt through the hole and screw a nut on the underside?🤪🤷
@jimflys2
@jimflys2 28 күн бұрын
Thanks, Greg. i think a bolt would be far to heavy to bounce around and rattle well. But if you mean to put in so that it stop a crack, it would have the effect of having a ton of moongel on it.
@gregwonhoff7161
@gregwonhoff7161 28 күн бұрын
@ Thanks, Mr.Flys2. I was just wondering if a nut and bolt could do the same as a rivet. I understand how the weight would counteract the desired sound. When I was a young drummer back in the early 60s, I had a gizmo marketed under the name of Sizzler. It screwed right to the cymbal stand on top of the cymbal. It reached across the diameter of the cymbal and had 3 or 4 rivets at each end. There were joints in the middle of each arm which enabled the drummer to fold them up so the rivets weren’t contacting the cymbal any more until the sizzle sound was desired. Then, the sizzling was restored. Thank you for sharing this process with all of us.❤️🙏👏❤️🙏👏❤️

Hi Jim, the 1st video I saw of you was one where you were showing how to wrap drums with vinyl wrap, because I was about to do a kit and wanted to learn how to do it. I bought some vintage white marine pearl from Precision drum co in NY, because for some reason nobody sells it in Canada ( I'm up in the Montreal area ) and was quite unpleasantly surprised at the cost of the stuff, between the price, the tax, the shipping. the customs brokerage fees, and conversion to Canadian money, it cost me more than double of what the drums cost, which are second hand Pearl masters maple custom toms, and a couple of Mapex. Anyways they turned out ok, and I recently covered some more drums in black diamond pearl. So I saw that video, but for some reason I thought your name was Ward Brodt or something like that, I didn't know you were a musician, but have seen some of your drumming videos since then. I started playing in 1975. If you're ever coming to Montreal come for a visit I've got a garage full of drums.

Wow! Thanks for being a long time viewer Kevin. That video about rewrap was done by our then "marketing department" at Ward Brodt Music. I have been and still am at WB. I decided to do my own videos. That one is still on their web page. Yes, it is really kind of expensive to do unless you do it yourself. I think I mentioned that in that video done some 15 years ago now. I am glad you had success with your project to some degree. My wife and I just got back from Canada - Ontario trip around Lake Superior. Beautiful. I would love to travel to more parts including Montreal. Some day. Incidentally, if you go to my YT channel, I have my drum repair, brass repair and drum covers all categorized so that if there is something like "hardware repair" you want to see, it will be under "drum repairs" Thanks again!
