SEVEN DAYS STING DRUM COVER - Jim Huwe

Thanks for watching this. Though I covered this tune some time ago, I wanted to redo it and with the opportunity to cover the police and sting week July 19-25 2024, it was a great time to dust this off and play it again. I am very happy with this. No doubt this was a hard song to learn with the implied 4 feel over the actual 5/4 time signature. I rarely attempt to play note for note from the original, but rather give homage to it and play it as if I were called to do the session. Of course I had to play the 4 over 5 pulse or it just wouldn't pay proper respect to this tune.

First of all, the sound is perfect. Levels are so well balanced. Second, what splashes are those? They sound amazing! Third, playing and execution are top notch. Love all the Jim additions to the song. Love what you're doing in the bridge. Very tasty. This rendition proves that you don't have to play excellent drum songs note for note for the cover to be just as amazing as the original. I can't speak to this video enough, brother. To say I am impressed is an understatement. I came in expecting a good cover, but I got greatness. Bravo, Jim! Best cover of 2024 so far IMO!

O.K. the splashes. 8" Zildjian paper thin from 1983. Then, a 12" like paper thin Agazarian splash from about 15 years ago. 35.00 bucks. It is amazing. I appreciate the good words, my friend. It took a while to get comfortable with the feel. I remember first being exposed to Vinnie and his implied metric modulations/feels back in 1986 when I received a magazine with a cassette - Percussioner International. I was stunned! Been working on some of those ideas since.
