4:32 Nooky Nauyokas signalling to Joe Murray they should meet for a drink. Weirdly enough, somewhere between 2002-2005 while working behind the bar in a pub/family restaurant with a kids soft play area (Brewsters/Brewer’s Fayre) during a University holiday time, ‘Corporal’ Joe Murray (actually a former Sergeant Major in the Parras) walked in one night, and I couldn’t stop myself staring at him as he walked in with some family (I’m guessing one was an adult child of his, who had youngsters). I was perfectly polite to him when I served him, but was shit-scared of saying anything to him apart from the “Good evening sir, what can I get for you” etc. Because I’d frozen like a dickheaded deer in the headlights from the moment he walked in the entrance, he’d clearly seen the cogs in my brain thinking ‘Holy shit, that’s actually ‘Corporal’ Murray!’ Fearing embarrassing him *or me* , or pissing him off, I bottled out of saying anything else other than polite service chat. I do regret it, but at the same time, with ADHD that was only officially diagnosed several years later, *and* my father being in a different part of the armed forces with a *really* short, aggressive & sometimes *violent* temper, I feared I would continue my habit of sometimes seeming to only open my mouth to change which foot was in it!! So, getting a kind-of suspicious/wary look from Joe Murray (but no *words* of annoyance) was probably a good thing. The guys who took part & worked with him who have commented on the forums & the KZbin videos of Lads Army & Bad Lads Army all say he’s a top bloke, and I’ve got no reason to doubt them, because he wouldn’t have got into the Parras & served for 22 years, making his way up to Sergeant Major if he was a dick. However, when he’s in the civilian world in a public place, he may well not want the barman saying “oh hi, I recognise you bla bla bla.” He would be well within his rights to say “do you mind? I’m out with family just trying to buy some drinks.” If I had disturbed or pissed him off, I would have felt *awful.*

That was great, that was the first time I have seen footage of Pioneers actually undertaking the type of work they were employed in. Such a valuable piece of footage for historical interest.

I always referred to the Regiment as two three not twenty three, I was part of Five one eight Squadron, we never referred it as five hundred and eighteenth Squadron. I think old sweats call it the former two three Pioneer Regiment.

Absolutely gutted they were eventually disbanded, I served in the Regiment between January 1987 to December 2002. Served in 518 and 187 Pnr Sqn, while there I done five tours of Northern Ireland, many exercises in Germany, served with many units in Germany, Gulf war, Gibraltar, Cyprus and Falkland Islands.

This is really tragic. Two men who instilled in countless young men the need for discipline, integrity, and comradeship go on to disgrace themselves by supporting Solider F, a murderer, perjurer, a man who disobeyed orders, and led indirectly to the deaths and injuries of scores of brother soldiers. Soldier F is in my opinion a traitor and no decent minded human, let alone patriots, should have anything to do with honouring him, or supporting him. A foul man, and a disgrace to his regiment.

The footage shows at 1500 a ship known as QE2 which is then being under transformation work in Hong Kong for an ocean going university and renamed as Seawise. Unfortunately it was sunken in a big fire, believed to be sabotaged by local communist affiliated underground organization, in1972 near the completion of work. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o17VYXdsfal9eck kzbin.info/www/bejne/onWtnKWEnM-si6c

Cyprus 1966 we (RAOC ) shared barracks with a Pioneer Company from the then Royal Pioneer Corps - It was the first time in my army life that we found that they had a black Company Sergeant Major and a very well respected bloke he was too. I think that they must have been ahead of the "diversity" thing way back!
