I changed out my wire harness to try and fix a bad wire issue that this did not resolve. I am still digging for the probable bad ground (I could see it on the ham radio I had, I I need to try that testing out again.)

Good luck on your voyage to the perfect van. I have had an ‘84 Westy since Covid started(great timing, meh). I bought it from a restorer in California so it’s painted and much of the low hanging fruit were done. Now it’s in the shop at Rocky Mountain Westys for a Subaru swap. Looking forward to this Winter.

@@notvanpron4115picked up My Vanagon at the end of Nov. It runs great and I have about 750 miles on it now. 😢hey fixed a bunch of little stuff like LED headlights, power pack that will charge the house battery when docked with electricity, they went thru the lights so all my brake, running, turn and backup lights work. This climbs the gentle hills we have in the Ozarks without straining at all. Waiting for better weather to get out for several days.

I must have looked at this just after my 87 arrived, the guy who sold it to me, said comeback next weekend, you can pull the harness from another 2.1 so I did. Ken at Vanagain did a nice job, it might be worth it just to buy his vs reinstalling the used one which was cut !! and reconnected, it look like they cut the harness on the donor bus and reconnected ALL those wires - since it was 87, the ecu was behind the "firewall", under the rear seat area. Thanks for posting.
@notvanpron41152 жыл бұрын
Oh man a cut ECU cable that is the worst. I have huge hole in my firewall cuz mine is also an 84 van with the 2.1, you gotta make room to get the connector through the firewall.

Yes and yes. You can get them tested. I just new I had old injectors and it was time. If you have OEM injectors it is work it to get a set of mansi injectors or just replace them.

do you have to add any other parts to add different light bulbs.
@GirthBikesMike4 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you may have to add a resistor for turn signals to blink at a normal speed, I think interior led lights can be to dim without one as well. Could be out dated knowledge though, bulbs may have that stuff integrated nowadays.
@notvanpron41152 жыл бұрын
The kit I installed came with a different blinker relay to fix the speed of the blinkers, that is the only change needed for LED lights.

So...what are your thoughts on performance?
@notvanpron41154 жыл бұрын
Honestly, It does run smoother but I have other electrical (ground) problems that it is covering much of the improvements. I should have some time this weekend to work on my ground issues.
@nuggethikes4 жыл бұрын
I just did all my grounds. Somehow get a dremel on a cable. Use a cone shaped wire brush and get to all your connections. Take them apart one at a time, wire brush connectors and mounting location. Cover connectors and everything with die electric grease and re install. I clean the screw too. One large ground on left of engine, one under front of transmission, and a few under the drivers dash.
@wander94 жыл бұрын
Any further thoughts on performance or fuel economy?
@kailuafrog3 жыл бұрын
@@nuggethikes Electric grease is NOT conductive. Smearing it on the parts before assembly is not the right way to use it. First you reassemble your parts, then you protect the assembly with the die electric grease
