I must have looked at this just after my 87 arrived, the guy who sold it to me, said comeback next weekend, you can pull the harness from another 2.1 so I did. Ken at Vanagain did a nice job, it might be worth it just to buy his vs reinstalling the used one which was cut !! and reconnected, it look like they cut the harness on the donor bus and reconnected ALL those wires - since it was 87, the ecu was behind the "firewall", under the rear seat area. Thanks for posting.

Oh man a cut ECU cable that is the worst. I have huge hole in my firewall cuz mine is also an 84 van with the 2.1, you gotta make room to get the connector through the firewall.

Why did you change the wire harness?
@notvanpron41158 ай бұрын
I changed out my wire harness to try and fix a bad wire issue that this did not resolve. I am still digging for the probable bad ground (I could see it on the ham radio I had, I I need to try that testing out again.)

Did the new harness come with a connector for the oil pressure sensors (low pressure and high pressure on one plug)?
@notvanpron41155 жыл бұрын
No that's part of the van/dash wiring.

Thanks for the upload! Did you ever solve the high idle? If so, how?
@notvanpron41152 жыл бұрын
Nope, I am still struggling with it. I still have the ICU valve pulled and I think I have a bad ground somewhere but I can find it.

Thanks for posting. How many total hours did it take?
@notvanpron41155 жыл бұрын
With filming 2 evenings after work. So maybe 8 hrs total. If I wasnt filming probably half that time. Thanks for watching.

@@notvanpron4115 it looks like someone cut the firewall in order to stuff all the wires? Without that cut I would think you would have to cut the ECU plug off, then push the end of the new wiring harness through that hole?
@notvanpron41155 жыл бұрын
Yes, This is an 84 Vanagon (which had the ECU in the pass tail light area). Looking at photos online it looks like the grommet is rather large and you can press the that out and put the whole connector through there. I cut that larger grommet off and went with the smaller one that I had. I very much assume that VW did not assemble that connector in the van. ;)

hello that wiring works for a 1991 vanagon

Yes, I believe it should work for any of the 2.1 engines.
