There was a time when I was a young adult hoping onto coal trains. Once one was moving exactly this speed as I had to get off, an the only way was to jump. luckily I only ended up with minor injuries 6 Staples to my head..I had jumped off in a railroad yard with a hole in my head, broken hand and a scuf up legs

Boy, looks more like that train was doing 75 instead of 70. I wouldn't want to be stuck on the tracks with that iron monster barreling down the tracks. It really is awesome to see something that heavy and that big moving that fast!

I was wondering how it was determined that this train was (supposedly) running at 70 mph? Did the videographer use a speed gun? Or assumed the train was running at the track speed of 70 mph? A quick rough calculation at 73'2" per locomotive, four locomotives passing in about 3(-) seconds; I get around 66.5mph.

There's an angle between the direction of the train and the camera that has to be accounted for.

The angle doesn't matter, it's just a coupler to coupler timing to the same spot.
