I have this stove, its pretty badly warped, the legs are beat up, but it gets the job done.

I used this when going to the field when they would let us use more than our poncho liner and fart sacks.. absolutely love it for cool or hot weather camping when not aetting up twitch with air matteress.. when I camp with my family we go luxury.. when I go... a wool blanket. Sleep system and a bivy tent.. easy. Effective. Light weight. Water resistant and with proper venting can even keep you cool and away from bugs

Definitely not the most comfortable way to camp, a standard bivi with a tarp is much better and much easier to get into

I love my bivy. I don't hoop or peg it. Always keep my face out, so no condensation. Use a tarp above if rain is expected.

Great review thank you! We all fancy tiny stuff but it has multiple disadvantages! One thing about the annoying double zips, I suppose the outer fly could be left unzipped but secured by Velcro only? 🤔

Could you get yours back in the bag?.... I couldn't
@DelsJogswithDogs20 күн бұрын
We got it back in yes, without too much trouble. We found putting the pole end in first worked best, followed by the more bulky side, then tightened the bulk strap first to compress. It helped us to zip things up more easily. We're still liking the shelter :)

I have the geertop, and only is the best for "low profile" nights. Sometimes, I must sleep at some places where is not allowed camping or is not the safer place... Geertop bivy behind some bushes is practically undetectable. I can sleep peacefully and continue my journey. but it is true that inside this tent I can't change clothes, cook, or sit; is only for sleep.

@AloeMCMLXIVАй бұрын
My stove is exactly the same way. I've tried extremely dry wood, wood pellets, cardboard and the fire goes out. Mine has a damper front and back and the fire goes out. Very annoying when you are trying to burn off the nasty chemical paint its sprayed with.

Those walls look paper thin? How did it hold up after a year?
@DelsJogswithDogs2 ай бұрын
Hey, sorry for the delay replying. The walls are fine but it's not the most efficient burner for cooking or heating. We'd rate it third in the stoves we've used, our preference being the Danchel. You can mod it, but it would need access to welding gear. Hope this helps!

Magical video! I love your spirit! Cheers, Del, Andy and doggies! Andy is the unsung hero of this ultra. . . Looks like bobcat or lynx tracks. It's hard to tell without knowing the size of them. Don't worry, bobcats and lynx are not interested in 2-leggeds and they, and cougars, are very nocturnal, and very aware of their surroundings (and intruders into their territory) so very little chance of spotting them during the day. Cougars have been known to attack lone female runners/cross-country skiers with pom-poms on their tuques (no joke), but that is extremely rare But if you do, happen to site a bobcat or lynx, you're lucky! They are magical... The other tracks are mule deer tracks.. If you blow into your water hose after you drink from it, it will keep it from freezing up. You can also use an insulated cover for the hose, which helps. You could have just warmed the hose up in the aid station vehicle (thanks, to Andy!), or put the hose under your armpit or under your clothes, and it would have thawed, and you could then have just kept using it (blowing the hose out after each drink). Just something to know for cases where you are not aided. ..You were wearing great colours, to make yourself visible on the highway. Great job! I'm so proud of you, Andy and doggies! Cheers!

Thank you so much for your lovely comment - and for identifying those tracks for me! I could tell they were some sort of cat rather than canine tracks as I couldn't see claw marks. It was so quiet out there that day though, and I was quite jumpy! Glad I didn't wear the pompom hat though :) And I shall certainly try that tick with the bladder hose in the winter - I've always struggled with my drinks freezing when it does get chilly. Thanks again!

Fantastic video! Thanks, Del! You're living the Alberta life... Those were all female (ewe) Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep... There are definitely cougars in the area where you were, and lynx... I was wondering, what shoes were you wearing? Did they work well in those conditions? I love your positive attitude. Keep on shining bright. Cheers!

So if your groundcloth extends beyond the bottom of your tent or bivvy, then any rain will run right under you. Make your groundcloth just slightly smaller in footprint than your cover, so the rain can run off of it. Hope your event went well! Also, your mat can go under the bivvy instead of inside it. It's held in place by the guy lines staking out the bivvy.

Using cast iron cookware is ideal with this sort of stove. A dutch oven with a lid that doubles as a skillet would be ideal.
@agentleebs7 ай бұрын
I have a similar stove that I use in the US. I really enjoy it instead of a campfire. It directs the smoke up and away, it’s always ready for a kettle, pot, or pan, and it uses the wood way more efficiently. I sewed a chimney flap in my pop up canopy, add a couple sides to get out of chilly winds, and have a general area of warmth. Bonus - in a wooded area, I can usually round up some fallen dried sticks in a few minutes to cook a hot meal. Dry wood makes all the difference.

I know this is an old video, how would you compare this Geertop Bivvy 2, to the Bivvy 1? Bivvy 1 is taller? I’m also considering getting one (green) to use with my Army groundsheet/ shelter 😀
@DelsJogswithDogs8 ай бұрын
Hello there, apologies for the delay replying! So I personally think the Geertop one person bivy tent would be the better option as it's definitely taller, and also gives more width for maneuvering. It's about the same weight, still low profile, and according to Amazon, it's available in army green or camouflage. Hope this helps!
@mdarks41178 ай бұрын
Great vid. I was considering using a low profile 1 person tent like this with my army groundsheet shelter. No leak issues is great. Can you change easily inside with a pack?
@DelsJogswithDogs8 ай бұрын
Thank you! In terms of changing inside with a pack, it really depends on your size. I thought it was relatively spacious and could just about change etc, but It might be a bit of a squeeze for somebody bigger. I'm around 5ft 6 and 135 to 140 lbs if that helps, and if I recall, I didn't have a large pack in there with me.
@mdarks41178 ай бұрын
That’s great I’m about the same height. For me, being able to sit up and switch clothes is all I need. Wish my organization issued US style individual shelters 😀

Can it be modified to put a vent at both ends? It just has to have more air flow.
@DelsJogswithDogs10 ай бұрын
There is netting so you could leave the outer zip undone to allow air movement. I was camping in April in the Canadian Rockies though, and it was too chilly overnight to leave it open. In the summer, it wouldn't be a problem though.

I have used this bivy half a dozen times and the condensation has been an issue every time. It fills with condensation even when you are not in it. It's a moisture trap somehow. I'm not sure how that works
