Obviously this gear is quite heavy, so this year I'll be looking to get some lighter stuff but obviously just as effective without breaking the bank too much. If you've any recommendations, feel free to share :)

Glad you like the tent! I've just come home from a night in that same tent (green version) in my local woods. I didn't sleep at all as it was so noisy with high winds clattering the trees about, so I've come home for a couple of hours' kip in my warm bed (Sunday morning here). I found the air temperature inside that tent was about 9 degrees warmer than it was outside it.

Yes, I definitely liked this one more than the bivy - it was much easier to get into my sleeping bag with the extra headroom, and I really was much warmer. Sounds like you had a rough night in yours ... bet that warm bed back home felt good. Have to say, I enjoy roughing it, but I'm alway glad for a warm house and comfy bed when I get home :)

Having watched both your videos on this tent I decided to buy it. Really looking forward to a wild camp

That's the thing with camping - you never know what wildcat you're going to see!

So bold! I ALMOST slept outdoors last winter in a snow nound/quinzee I had made, but then the temps dropped to -20c so I decided not to! Maybe this winter......

That would have a been a cool experience - figuratively and literally! I wasn't sure if I'd be warm enough hence playing it safe in the backyard to test things out - minus 20 does sound cold for camping! But I'm hoping to do another camp soon now I know what I need to stay warm :) Fingers crossed you can get out this winter ...

@@DelsJogswithDogs I completely agree with the backyard testing protocol! Have you heard of the Canadian Ski Marathon? Once you have passed a few levels showing that you are a competent skier, you "get" to ski 80kms with your food and camping gear on your back, spend the night at Gold Camp with a bunch of other loonies, then ski another 80kms the next day! (I have not achieved this incredible level). kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3XJqHqsZrOZm6M most campers sleepin bags on straw. No bivies or tents!

I've not heard of that, no, but that's certainly something I'd love to do. I can't ski yet, but it's another thing on my bucket list, and being an ultra runner, these long distance endurance events with all the "roughing it" sound perfect! Maybe we'll both getvto do it some day - never say never :)
