Thank you for the great tutorial! I'm having problems with inflating. I first deflate my object and then I want it to float and balloon to original shape. Ballooning is making it all round and looking like a cloth anymore (no folds or wrinkles). I need my object to be inflated from deflated state. Thank you!

this really should not be the users' responsibilities to do such "workaround"... come on . look at houdini, just a click and you can visulize any selection including vertices/polygons/edges/vector

As someone using C4D since the late 90's, I fully agree with the existing comments. Why do we need a QuickTip for this as a workaround? I am dealing with Polygon Selections a lot and I don't like that there is no preview solution to show all the existing different selections at once or maybe with some selection window that lists all selections with some checkbox/eye view tool. And even here, I don't think it needs a material to preview it. --- The whole process and selections itself could be done more efficient. Even think about Selections as a Deformer/Subobject. Imagine what possibilities this could hold, especially when it comes to transfer selections, backup selections, storing multiple different selections on one object and simple turning them on and off if they are inside an object and not on the object itself. Not even starting how well it could work with Hairs, Particles, etc. Warm greetings to the dev team and happy new year, Maxon.

My biggest gripe is that we cannot manually paint selection maps on procedural objects. This really needs addressing.

Add a Correction deformer to your procedural object, paint your selections there and store selection. you'll then be able to use that stored selection tag as a field inside of ANOTHER selection tag on your procedural object.

Nice quicktip! Why hasn't the preview of selection tags on procedural objects been implemented yet? Is it not possible? I often use a vertex map to visualize fields on an object, so why not a selection tag? Also, why do you use a standard material, wouldn't this also work with a RS material?

I really appreciate what Dom does but hes a league of his own. Please, pack these nodes into modifiers like in XP. Nobody is using scene nodes in c4d and nobody will till they become extremely user friendly. Using houdini at this point, is way easier.

Jeez... I've struggled with multiple grid datasets in custom volumes for a long time. I had no idea that the actual name of the Volume Object could define the grid name. This is a brilliant idea, but I can't find it documented anywhere in the official Cinema 4D documentation? And isn't it quite a new thing for naming to drive functionality in C4D? So please, please do a tutorial on any other undocumented functionality where object naming can play a part - I feel that I could suddenly be missing out on important stuff... 🙂

although you can, I would suggest using the Volume Loader or the RS Volume.

can this be made into a relative path via the save projects with assets command or manually if I erase the path and leave just the vdb name (similar to a material texture)? I am asking because I would like to know if this would be possible to use on a render farm where the path changes from windows pathing to linux or just a different drive letter.

I manually changed to relative path and it appears to work in a test file but I have no idea what happens with a render farm.

it's not smoke. Just a Random Field inside the Volume builder set to Fog.

now with the new particle system.. I think using the particle Mesh emitter is the way to go now.. Under Mesh Emitter it accepts both Polygon selection and Vertex Map Selection.

When I try add the backdrop asset i get nothing show up in my viewport. The gimbal displays but no element. There also is no attributes displaying for the object. Any idea's as to why?

It's been a while since auto sampling hasn’t been doing a good job. It should get some more attention, in my opinion. It’s a pain in the neck tweaking those settings, especially when it could be fully automated. Come on, Maxon, let’s hire more people to make it great!
