Great video since I’m transitioning from solidworks to blender and it’s a whole different world. I was wondering if you could maybe do a tutorial of how to generate not uniformal object like vases in blender, something like a dented vase but with different dents on the sides like it would have been bumped a couple of times with different strengths if you get my point, either way great tutorial, thank you!

Thanks for the suggestions. This might have been a good idea to add to this video- One REALLY simple way to achieve what you suggest here is to go into sculpt mode and use the grab brush to just pull out and push in some parts of the finished model. I'll add this idea to my list and perhaps get around to doing more complex vases.

@notverygoodguy6 күн бұрын
@@Kommander_Rahnn Oh I see. If your model starts out hollow like in this video then you would only need to create the plane as shown in this video and do the boolean. No need to separate the inside from the outside and no need to do a boolean on the inside of the model too. If your model isn't already hollow you will need to make it hollow first. If your model is quite simple then you would just add a solidify modifier to it. If it is complex that might work or you might just hollow it out in your slicer and export the result as an stl for Blender and then cut it.

Please forgive me if the answer is obvious, this is my first time using 3D printing for a project. I followed the steps in your video but for some reason my whole model will disappear. Which might sound like it's fixed, no issues, but there is a red part in my model just like it shows on your screen. So before hitting H, if I go into my model I see the red (blue spot was moved to transparent). But when I hit H, the whole model disappears. It also will say it has no geometry data when put into the orca slicer, so I know there's something wrong with the model. Do you know why the red part may be removed too when I hit H?
@notverygoodguy23 күн бұрын
A possible reason might be if the hollow part of the model intersects with the outside so that when you try to select the inside of the model (the red part) is also selects the outside. Then when you press H to hide the vertices, they are all hidden. One thing you could do is to try this in reverse but you won't be able to use the l key to select things. If the model isn't too intricate you could use the circle select option c and then control the size of the selection circle with your mouse scroll wheel and then paint all the outside of your model to select everything you can actually see. Then hide these with h and see what is left. If it looks like it is probably the inside of the model, select everything and delete and unhide the ones you hid before. I hope this works. Let me know.

I'm really lost, i never used Blender before, and I don't understand why it worked one time, and now with the same exact starting model, it doesn't work anymore :/
@notverygoodguy23 күн бұрын
The most likely cause of this kind of thing is if the normals on the model or the cutting tool are wrong. I suggest tuning on Face Orientation in the viewport overlays and checking these first. Let us know how it goes.

When I press "L" to select only half of my object in edit mode, everything is selected :/ I repeated the whole process multiple times just to be sure, when I added more thickness to the cutting tool and applied boolean, it doesn't seem to "cut" the model, it's still connected
@notverygoodguyАй бұрын
Often when something completely weird like this happens it is because of incorrect normals. Have you turned on face orientation to check you don't have any red faces where you shouldn't? If not perhaps you could provide a link to your blend file. I am always interested in seeing if versions of Blender that I may not be using yet have broken things that used to work.

@@notverygoodguy Thank you for the response - it was indeed problem with swapped faces. I made a part of my Tree hollow. To save filament and time while printing. I doesnt work with the FDM Printer. It prints like there is no hollow Part. Is there a special Method? I could print the Tree in Vase mode, but i have to place the tree on a Landscape and then print it together. So... a partly hollow tree together with a landscape in normal Mode printing. Any Idea how to do it? Thanks for your videos
@notverygoodguyАй бұрын
This should work with both FDM and resin printing though of course for the hollowed out part it is a little more difficult to add supports in an FDM printer slicer. I would suggest turning on face orientation and then looking insider and outside your model to make sure the normals are correct. I have a video on what normals are all about on the channel too if you are interested.
@Container-11Ай бұрын
@@notverygoodguy Thanks a lot for the rapid answer. And yes, there were problems with the Faces. Now everything works great.The tree in Vase mode needs 1h29m, that´s crazy fast ... but with Solidify at 0,2mm the normal print mode needs 1h 44m. Works like a dream. Before i hollowed the Tree with boolean tool and a slighter smaller copy from the tree..... ... but with solidify it is easy and works for me. Thanks a lot ... Somebody must invent a printer that someone can place two Models on the print bed and one model will print in Vase Mod and the other Model in normal print mode--parallel. That would be great
@notverygoodguyАй бұрын
@@Container-11 You can already do one model in vase mode and another in normal print mode you just have to have a printer with two extruders and make sure one extruder doesn't crash into your vase mode model while it's printing given the vase mode will be quicker :) Glad you have everything sorted now!

Followed your procedure, but when I apply the displacement modifier, the texture disappears and leaves me with the basic mesh. Any idea how to fix?
@notverygoodguyАй бұрын
When you mention a texture are you expecting the texture to remain as a colour texture such that you might use to make skin on a human? This technique uses the texture or even better, a displacement map to adjust the vertices on a mesh in one direction according to to the brightness of the corresponding area in the image file or texture in this case. It doesn't actually apply a texture. I hope this makes sense.
@famisreiter4141Ай бұрын
@@notverygoodguy no no I mean that the procedure doesn't affect the geometry at all!

Why mess with all the vertex group stuff and save a bunch of time by adding one extra super tiny bone in front of the one at the shoulder then the 3 bones following will work as expected and you dont have to mess with the tiny bone attached to the rest of the model at all. Work smarter not harder.
@notverygoodguy2 ай бұрын
I have mentioned this somewhere in the comments but unless you want to do a complete rig you can end up with with bits you don't want to move anyway. That aside, it is always good to learn the relation between bone weights and vertex groups.
