I cannot believe the man called Barnabas was this man.

No offense but no I cannot believe that is actually the same sexy handsome man from the late 60's, he couldn't possibly have changed that much.
@marilynwillett80414 күн бұрын
That can't be Jonathan Frid how can his face change that much. I mean from 1971 to 81. No.

Lara Parker was a cop hater. In real life. Her book 'The Salem Branch's shows her hatred of police when she makes them out to be goons trying to take people's constitutional rights from them.

I love hearing these stories from Jonathan. He did such a great job telling them. It’s sad because I’ve only heard about him over a year ago, but so glad now that I know about him, see him as an actor, and hear these stories that he tells so well.

I was in Elementary school in when Dark Shadows first aired, and my mom wouldn't let me watch it because it was "stupid". I finally discovered it again years later when it was in syndication in the mid 70's when I lived in Illinois, and didn't find it "stupid". In particular, Jonathan's performance as Barnabas, his sense of being out of time and place, really caught my attention. I found it and the character bof Barnabas interesting and it inspired me to write. Though I was now 16, I still wasn't allowed to watch it, mommy dearest thought it was "stupid" again so either I had to sneak into the spare room and sit right next to a tiny B&W TV we had with my hand on the channel dial, or watch it at a friend's house. This was before TV remotes. If my mom looked in I would immediately change the channel to something that she wouldn't object to so she'd go away. She did exactly the same thing when I wanted to watch Star Trek, it was ridiculous of her. I got something from Dark Shadows and Barnabas, his sense of insecurity and efforts to fit in. Jonathan played what to could have been a very simple character as someone complex. Much later when I was in my 30's my husband and I started to watching the DVD's and it was fun having someone to enjoy it with. He also liked Jonathan 's portrayal of Barnabas as a complex, insecure character. Once a woman came over with a friend of mine and looked at my bookcase and started ridiculing me for having a collection of Dark Shadows DVDs. I couldn't believe her rudeness. After all I had been through when I was younger I just lost it and icily asked her how dare she come into someone's house as a guest and have the rudeness to criticize and mock what they had on their shelf. I asked her to leave though it was pouring outside, and the friend who brought her agreed with me and apologized for her guest's behavior. What is so terrible about Dark Shadows that people react this way over so many years?

Was nice to hear the nervousness or fear he had for the vampire role. That would explain a lot of how so much underlying emotion was displayed on DS by him. Trippy to hear Larry King hanging out with him here.

Question Why would he have recorded this in his apartment back then and not at the actual DS studio where he would have had access to their huge rehearsal hall at the studio ?? Thank you for the post, it's wonderful and so 'rare'.

I loved this man I wished that I had met him. When he was thinking about coming to California I was 16 and lived in West Covina. I like so many people ran home from school to watch him on TV as Barnabas Collins I fell in love with him not the Character but the man I knew there were no such things as Vampires besides I would rather kiss the man rather then be bitten by him LOL. I didn't get to see many of the Dark Shadows episodes until now when I got a streaming device & now seeing every episode. I didn't like what Dan Curtis said about Jonathan Frid that he would mess up on his own name. Jonathan Frid had dyslexia but even though he had to look at the teleprompter every once in awhile along with everyone on the show he wasn't the only one even the kids David Henessy & Sharon Smyth messed up. Jonathan had 593 episodes he was in that's 19 shows less then 1/2 the episodes I think he did a fantastic job remember words that were by somebody else. Please go to Canadian Walk of Fame and nominate this fantastic actor in his home country that he was very proud of. This man deserves this award I have no idea why he was nominated a long time ago. He wasn't in his lifetime but let's get this award for the in our lifetime.

I would have loved to have seen that play! Arsenic and Old lace with Jonathan Frid would be amazing!! Mr Frid, or is that Fridd? Is the funniest man I have ever had the chance to listen to! I'm also half English, and half Scottish. Our family came from Oxford, Lancashire, and Edinborough. I have often had trouble with people misspelling my last name, so Jonathan and I had something in common. I really enjoyed his story about his last name! ~Janet in Canada

BRIEF BLOG 12/15/2023: This documentary is now in my DVD collection & sometime in FY 2024, I might be buying the Blu-Ray of the same documentary as sort of an added dividend to my original DVD piece. It would be an honor for me to buy a 2nd copy as the documentary is of very good quality & is very interesting to watch & listen to albeit w/a sad ending pertaining to the passing of the late Mr. Frid in April 2012 at age 87.
