This is utterly incredible to watch! 😃 I find it amazing just how long you can keep a slide going for in a front wheel drive car Dave 👌😂. Another fantastic video 🫵! Would you recommend spacers for the FN2? Do they improve handling?
@davemarshallracing2 ай бұрын
It’s a difficult one bud. I noticed a bigger difference in the right size tires for the rim, eg I tried to run 225/45/17 Dunlop direzza for a season on ep3 rims and they were wearing pretty badly on edges. Changing to a 8j rim over the 7 was a noticeable difference in steering feel and tire wear. That was also the point when we changed to spacers. We only use a 20mm Hubcentric spacer on the front as with the shims in the back axle is spacers it out anyways. The wider track does seem to give more stability but maybe slightly lazier on direction change. Very slight though. Nit a huge difference and would have though if your just doing road and not track the only difference I would think you will notice is cosmetic as it does look better. Hope that gives you a rough idea

This was a tough one to watch on the livestream and even tougher to ride onboard knowing the outcome (but not the reason) before you did. Turning a negative into a positive, you were flipping flying mate 😁! It was almost rhythmical watching you nail every apex on every corner, perfect braking points and just generally being at one with the car. While this might not have been a winning video, I think it shows that you have the pace to mix it in the top 3! Dare I even say it, maybe even a championship contender for '25 if all the stars align? 🤞 As much as this was a sub-optimal way to end the season, I feel like you can take away ALOT of good bits from this year and help it power you forwards into the 2025 season. 😃 I know I've said this before, but thanks Dave for starting this channel and bringing us this content. My favourite 2 words to start any recording is either "so" or "right" which is why there is 15 million edits in the stuff we produce 😅. 4:27 At least Kites rear tyres are now nice and toasty and warm. 🤣 5:07 It will always amaze me how cool, calm and collected you always are! I think most of us mere mortals wouldn't have the skills to control that slide. Even if we did, we would probably be screaming like a baby while producing alot of brown matter 😅. As much as the video isn't so intense when you're not battling at the top, I personally still find it a great watch to see you hitting all the apexes and generally doing some hot lapping when you have some free air. I find it fascinating with these Civic's that there is almost 3 states when cornering. 1. There is alot of understeer. 2. The rear tyres end up in a vicious cycle when the car goes into oversteer and they keep losing grip, regaining grip, losing grip which then leads to horrible rear bouncing. 3. The bit that fascinates me the most and it's when there is the tiniest bit of oversteer which allows the back to pivot around the front axle beautifully with no rear bouncing. It will never cease to amaze me when you can sometimes do 75% of a corner with the steering straight as the car is in a perfectly balanced drift. One quick question. You're starts seem to be pretty good in recent times. How do you go about practicing race starts? Is it something that can be learned in sim racing or is there not enough feedback from sims? Or do you just have ALOT of traffic lights where you live and you learn by doing the traffic light GP? 😅 Thanks for another great upload Dave 👍. - Scott
@davemarshallracing2 ай бұрын
Cheers Scott. The car is actually really controllable past the limit of the tyre and car. Really balanced. Just gives you the confidence to really push the car on. The sim racing I think has just learnt me to keep relaxed. Sort of makes it feel like you can anticipate or react to certain scenarios easier, maybe because I have already done them or something similar before or the sim. Regarding the starts, I don’t practice them at all. My shifting I think helps as it seems like I can get drive when shifting to 2nd faster than some of the other drivers on the grid. Also it is just clutch control and controlling the amount of tyre slip when pulling away. Just got to keep cool and focus on the lights. Hope that somewhat clears things up Scott.
@ScottandAlana4x42 ай бұрын
@@davemarshallracing You're replies are always spot on so cheers for that Dave 👍. What sims help you out the most? Back in the day when I used to do some sim-racing, there was only 1 or 2 on the market. Even then, they were a million miles away from the level of detail that goes into sim's these days. One that I still dabble in is Live For Speed as although graphically isn't the finest, the physics behind it are not too far off in my opinion 😃. Granted, if you suddenly got sponsored by Screwfix and were doing 10 grand a weekend, I'd still keep watching because of point number 1 😃. I'm not sure if you're down with the whole "vlogging" thing, but it would be interesting during the off season for you to walk around the car and maybe do a short video listing the bits on a Civic that can be / cannot be changed. That's £1k at the bare minimum, not even including testing, parts and maintenance in between. I did Type R Trophy last year and the amount you have to spend to be at the front is mental. Had to compete with teams as a privateer as well seemingly like yourself. Came away with 2 lap records and a couple wins but had some podiums and a couple wins robbed from me through reliability issues, being fired off and straight up cheating. But the amount I spent last year meant I couldn't do it this year and probably not next year either because I've got no help on the funding side. You've mentioned previously that if the budget comes together it'll be another (hopefully great) season of Civic Cup next year. But what's the ultimate goal of Team Dave Marshall Racing if you had the budget to do whatever you wanted for the many years to come? Stay in Civic's and just have a great time like you are doing for seasons to come? Tough it out with the best in TCR's? Rub panels in the BTCC? Or aiming high for some form of GT racing? - Scott

That car in front of you being 45 degrees to the track towards the start of the race on the fastest corner of the track has to give you brown trousers on where it's actually going to be when it has finished sliding! 💩 I know that putting tyre's on the car is far more important than your media setup, but having a 360 camera recording at the same time would've been epic for a race like this 😁. I know with some organisers, they either won't allow in car recording for public consumption, or someone will already own all the rights to any media and forbid the posting of such material. I'm guessing one of these reasons is why stuff doesn't get posted from TCR (unless you're a certain Michael Crees recording footage from Boardleys laptop...) 😁 - Scott
