I think you’re in about the same situation as myself, I initially bought a 105L Fanatic SkySup which I think is a bit small for a beginner, especially if you’re self-teaching. I was struggling on it for sure. Probably a 130-140 litre board would be good. I bought a 185 litre F-One Rocket Air which is an inflatable, I suspect the size and extra drag and additional flex (because it’s inflatable it’s not as rigid) are part of what’s preventing me from actually getting up on the foils, so consider a rigid board. I can stand on it and get the wing up because it has so much stability, but no “flying” yet. The tech is rapidly changing and there’s lots of people who like to be on the latest models so hunt for good condition stuff on the used market. Not saying that inflatables don’t work as definitely you can find people using them, they’re also a little more convenient for storage than a rigid board just a consideration to keep in mind.

@peaplecreative
@peaplecreative 24 күн бұрын
It will not replace the wingcraft board. Just like wing sizes and foils they each offer dialing in that days conditions. Florida we have a massive amount of 9-14 mph days and this board I think is the answer…long and narrow work. As for if it’s easier, it may depend on everyone’s experience level. I would not recommend it for someone learning or transitioning to smaller boards.

I tried and when I turned on the motor, the wing kept turning over. As if the speed changed the apparent wind direction - just guessing. Do you know what is wrong? @peaplecreative Ай бұрын
@@karp3306 the one lock foil launch is April 2025. The initial system looks like it will be more wing, wake and kite. However if slingshot makes the tail piece of the rear wing longer it will lengthen it and would work for wind foil because as we know windfoil needs longer fuses generally. As with the phantasm system there is always an initial launch and then they add more and more wings and rear wings etc. I intend to keep my phantasm set up and run it parallel with the one lock because I have invested in many different masts, wings and fuses and I like wind, wing and prone foil.

I think some questions many people will have are: Are they worth close to double the cost of a V4 or V5 wing? Lighter and stiffer, yes, but are they also more durable? Would they allow me to reduce the size of my quiver, say from three to two? Maybe greatest benefit for your largest size, lightest wind, only? How about repairs? I haven't tried any of the Alula wings or kites yet myself, looking forward to it.
@peaplecreative
@peaplecreative 2 ай бұрын
All very reasonable questions, think it largely depends on where you wing and the conditions you wing in. Aluula is popular in Florida, 2/3 of the year we use 5.5 and up depending on rider weight and I think if folk can afford it, they will pay for that extra medium-light wind performance. The V4 and now the V5 are excellent wings and if I winged where it would take a daily beating and its over 20+mph a lot, then I would seriously look at all the values. I have torn a few canopies and leading edges from shore pound and trying tricks on most V version wings.

I'm 82kg and had sold my G 1000 after switching to the 900, I just didn't like how slow it was in roll (although I only used it with a PS 400). After riding the 900 for awhile, I switched to the PS 360 and was happy with that combo. Once I was able to get the 999, haven't gone back. It's a little slower in roll, but more pitch sensitive, faster, and pops up earlier. I damaged my PS 360 and went back to the 400, adding a -1deg shim. That works pretty well, but I may try chopping the winglets off next. I've also just changed from a 90L WC V2 to a slightly longer and narrower 80L board. I don't think the very short and wide boards are the way forward, and am looking forward to Slingshot's next offerings, hopefully they'll show them at AWSI here in a couple of weeks. Great video as usual. Living in the Midwest I do a lot of light wind winging it's all I've got! I'm finding as I improve I can get going in 8 to 9 knots but there are of course big holes in the wind inland. So I can pump the board and pump the wing but eventually one just comes off the foil. Am I right in thinking that you have the same issue here - eventually you run out of apparent wind if it's very light? In essence for consistent very light wind once your up foil drive you can keep going but in very spotty wind with big holes one might not get much advantage - foil drive will help getting on foil but it won't help staying on foil?

That is impressive and encouraging at the same time. I’ve been doing kite surfing since 2003 and two months ago I bought a 98L 5”4 board, a x1,600 foil (70cm mast) and a4.5m wing. I’m 163 pounds and cannot get on foil in my first two sessions. I was really frustrated, one of my friends gave me his 6.0m wing and a 118L / 5”10 board and I got on foil almost immediately. Second session with the big wing I was riding both ways. Next session it was 17 to 22 knots and I decided to use my 4.5 meter wing and my board. I got on foil twice briefly and cannot get on foil again so I ended up exhausted. The very next day it was 19 to 23 knots and again cannot get on foil until I use my friends 5.5 meter. I know I’m learning but is frustrating to think that I will need tons of wind to do this, with this video I know that I’m just a kook 😂😂😂. By the way I live in Puerto Rico and usually is windy all year round but since I bought the wing gear it has been terrible!! Rain and no wind, or you have a brief period of wind in the morning and then at 10 to 11am the wind dies which is very strange. Anyway, thanks for the video. Hey Dean, What is the mast position when using the PTM899, relative to the G900. While foiling, I got the impression that at higher speeds my front foot pressure really had to increase to keep the foil in the water. I do use my front footstraps, so putting my front foot further forward is difficult. Do you change the mast position when changing the foil and if yes, how? Greetings, Frans (PS: I have both foils, de 82 cm carbon mast and de 90 wingcraft V2)

Hello Frans, Yes I move the mast back 2cm when using the PTM899 (on both the 80L and 90L the back of the mast plate is at number 5.5) for the G900 and G800 I use number 7.5 in the tracks...hope this helps?

Hi Dean, today I checked and I have the same mast position for my G900 as you have: at 7.5 . But I noticed that the scale is not exactly in cm: The 20 stripes on the bottom of the board correspond to 16.4 cm. I'll keep you posted

if ur front foot pressure is increasing w speed ur stab should be shimmed . slingshot sells a shim kit for $11. as u go faster u need more fwd foot pressure so u need "less lift" shim or I believe neg. badscally u gotta tilt stab flatter or trailingvedge down. start less lift 0.5 degree shim see how that goes. go slow to fast. if u have to increase fwd foot pressure w speed then up it - 1.0 then - 1.5 back off if ever seems squirly in pitch. if u have a smaller stab u could try that too the goal is to decrease negative lift from stab.

Dean, great to see how that performs. I'm not sure if Iunderstood correct: you launched = got up on the foil flying, in 7-9 mph / 6-8 knots? I have also the same combination 899 v360 and thinking all time ifI need a low wind front winh or not like the g1007. You have both ones. How big is the low end difference out of your experience? The 899 is more fun and has a much more better glide out of my experience. But I had the g1007 only tested for 10 mind from a friend. Low end of 899 is better more back?

Hi Michael. The wind on the inside was super light 7-9 mph, I could not get the foil up in that wind. Further out the wind had very short gusts around 12-14 mph and average of 10-14 mph. Yes I have the G1007 which I use more for foil drive (like efoil). If the wind is averaging 5-9 mph I use foil drive and g1007. If the wind is 10-14 I wing using G900. If the wind is 14+ I wing using PTM899. Hope this makes sense?

@@peaplecreative Thanks for the great reviews on the 899! In lighter winds with the G900 or G1007 do you still use the v360? or switch to the 400?

@@markella.m In really light winds for my weight (189lbs) I use the G900 and PS400 in winds 8-14mph, as soon as the wind is 13+ I am on the PTM899 and PS360. I use the G1007 for only foil drive these days. Hope this helps
