I think you’re in about the same situation as myself, I initially bought a 105L Fanatic SkySup which I think is a bit small for a beginner, especially if you’re self-teaching. I was struggling on it for sure. Probably a 130-140 litre board would be good. I bought a 185 litre F-One Rocket Air which is an inflatable, I suspect the size and extra drag and additional flex (because it’s inflatable it’s not as rigid) are part of what’s preventing me from actually getting up on the foils, so consider a rigid board. I can stand on it and get the wing up because it has so much stability, but no “flying” yet. The tech is rapidly changing and there’s lots of people who like to be on the latest models so hunt for good condition stuff on the used market. Not saying that inflatables don’t work as definitely you can find people using them, they’re also a little more convenient for storage than a rigid board just a consideration to keep in mind.

It will not replace the wingcraft board. Just like wing sizes and foils they each offer dialing in that days conditions. I tried and when I turned on the motor, the wing kept turning over. As if the speed changed the apparent wind direction - just guessing. Do you know what is wrong? @@karp3306 the one lock foil launch is April 2025. The initial system looks like it will be more wing, wake and kite. However if slingshot makes the tail piece of the rear wing longer it will lengthen it and would work for wind foil because as we know windfoil needs longer fuses generally. As with the phantasm system there is always an initial launch and then they add more and more wings and rear wings etc. I intend to keep my phantasm set up and run it parallel with the one lock because I have invested in many different masts, wings and fuses and I like wind, wing and prone foil.

I think some questions many people will have are: Are they worth close to double the cost of a V4 or V5 wing? Lighter and stiffer, yes, but are they also more durable? Would they allow me to reduce the size of my quiver, say from three to two? Maybe greatest benefit for your largest size, lightest wind, only? How about repairs? I haven't tried any of the Alula wings or kites yet myself, looking forward to it.
@peaplecreative2 ай бұрын
All very reasonable questions, think it largely depends on where you wing and the conditions you wing in. Aluula is popular in Florida, 2/3 of the year we use 5.5 and up depending on rider weight and I think if folk can afford it, they will pay for that extra medium-light wind performance. The V4 and now the V5 are excellent wings and if I winged where it would take a daily beating and its over 20+mph a lot, then I would seriously look at all the values. I have torn a few canopies and leading edges from shore pound and trying tricks on most V version wings.

After riding the 900 for awhile, I switched to the PS 360 and was happy with that combo. Once I was able to get the 999, haven't gone back. It's a little slower in roll, but more pitch sensitive, faster, and pops up earlier. I damaged my PS 360 and went back to the 400, adding a -1deg shim. That works pretty well, but I may try chopping the winglets off next. I've also just changed from a 90L WC V2 to a slightly longer and narrower 80L board. I'm finding as I improve I can get going in 8 to 9 knots but there are of course big holes in the wind inland. So I can pump the board and pump the wing but eventually one just comes off the foil. Am I right in thinking that you have the same issue here - eventually you run out of apparent wind if it's very light? In essence for consistent very light wind once your up foil drive you can keep going but in very spotty wind with big holes one might not get much advantage - foil drive will help getting on foil but it won't help staying on foil?

Second session with the big wing I was riding both ways. Next session it was 17 to 22 knots and I decided to use my 4.5 meter wing and my board. I got on foil twice briefly and cannot get on foil again so I ended up exhausted. The very next day it was 19 to 23 knots and again cannot get on foil until I use my friends 5.5 meter.
