I'm in the South Carolina lowlands. I grew some Ruby June strawberries this year and while they are supposedly junebearing they have flowered again after being cutback in August (I start my own plugs). Anyways, I think i'm getting an actual fall flush worth selling this year. I've never seen this happen, having junebearing flower again in fall. Anyone else on here grown Ruby June before? I'm quite pleased with this variety, though I wonder if it's actually junbearing now.

@@ZaraThustra-w2n I don't know much about Matted row production, I've always grown strawberries as annuals on plastic mulch. But I have been growing Ruby June for several years now, it is a great variety. With a really mild fall like weve had, you will have some blooming in the fall, I've got some blooms on my plants now. I have in certain years seen plants covered in blooms at Christmas... (they'll be burnt off by the Frost) but they'll be covered in open blooms.

We used to space them all 12 by 12 on a 4ft bed but the last 2 years have spaced them on 14 by 14 on 5 foot beds and that alone will help more than anything with Grey mold more than any spray will and the berries ripen up alot better with the extra 2 inches on each side. I know you have a lot of area to cover, but for air flow, you might consider trellising your plants. • It will get them up off the ground • Possibly save your back come harvesting time • You can find your runners to replant/sell if you want to do that. You could start with some t-posts and jute twine. The twine can go in the compost. For your cover crop, you might consider Dutch clover. It will help keep the soil moist when it hasn't rained for a while and it will help with nitrogen levels. Good luck on your season! Tyfs

I think you'd have to plants bare root plants first week of September for them to produce like plug plants that you plant last week of Sept or first week of Oct We have tried California cut offs the first week of Oct and just wasn't worth it compared to plugs unless you could get them earlier.

We didn’t get any plugs this year cause the neo p but we are trying the cut offs and just cut back the size of our patch to about 13k plants to see how they do. A variety called medallion was all we could get by the time we were told how bad the losses were by the guy we get plugs from.

Really curious to see how the different row spacing works out. Prior to seeing this video we tried turning bare root cutoffs of a late variety into plug plants so we could use our water wheel. They took off really quickly in the flats. The problem we ran into though was the drought preventing from planting on time and then testing at Purdue and OSU for neo p. Getting mixed results so we are going to overwinter covered in flats as they have went dormant. Then if healthy we are going to try to plant on opposite part of farm as early as possible (bare root time frame) in the spring and see what happens. Always something new it seems. Fronteras is a good berry, have grown it a few years now and been happy with it. Did want to ask about your cover in the middles, seeding rate timing and how to seed it. Thanks
