Sounds great except that water pump bearing is squealing a bit like grease me...

Is this a petrol??? Even in the 30s in Europe most tractors were Diesel, mostly two stroke.

That is such a great sound. Brings me right back to when I was a kid. I was raking hay with the old Model A when I was 12 or 13. Ours wasn’t quite that pretty though. Nice machine. 👍🏻

My dad had 300 utility. I wish he had bought a row crop instead. He would been able to do alot more work with it. Reason he bought a utility was for manure scoop to clean the barn out.

Thanks for sharing. My dad had several 2 cylinder John Deere tractors, buying his first one new in 1941 - he didn't collect them, he farmed with them. He had a 1936 A that he bought used. It was pretty much exactly like this one, but in original condition, not restored. Dad farmed with his 1936 A in the 1950's and 1960's, trading it off on a more modern tractor in 1965. I was 7 years old at that time. I drove the 1936 A raking hay, loading manure (had a manure loader for it), pulling fence posts, and a couple of other things, but I never spent too much time driving it before it was gone. I was just starting to drive tractors at about the time it got traded off. It had good compression and I wasn't strong enough to crank it over - had to park it on a hill and coast it, or else let it run, or else my dad would have to start it. Thanks again.

Owned a 48. The 2 cyl engine could be slowed down to where you could count the firing strokes. T Epp

Who starts it with the clutch engaged?
@johnbeck96296 жыл бұрын
Hey..I think it gives you a little more momentum when you're hand cranking it. I start my 1943 JD B in neutral with the clutch in gear. It seems to keep going better after the first little pop. I never tried it on an A though. I saw it first on KZbin from a guy who completely went through his engine. He started his on the first "sweet" pull. I can usually start on the second pull with the clutch engaged. Unengaged it will take three or four. I saw it on KZbin this November, tried it...an it seems to help.

Hi! Great JD Video! You jus' now took me back to 1964 Oklahoma with my Grandpa (easily goin' down into and up a small ditch in the trail on his JD Model A)! Are you doin' any regular farming with your Green Beauty or is she taken only out to Family Tractor Shows? It's okay if your JD is retired. I bet she's worked over more Black Eyed Peas, Watermelon (even the yellow meat), and Hay runs than any Man alive. She deserves a polished break!

You are correct Ken endes. This is a 1951 model. The holes in the cast wheels were introduced in 1951 which gives away the year... assuming they were original to the tractor.
