Great tractor. That ol' Johnny-Popper sound sure brings back fond memories from the 1960s. Thanks for posting.

That is such a great sound. Brings me right back to when I was a kid. I was raking hay with the old Model A when I was 12 or 13. Ours wasn’t quite that pretty though. Nice machine. 👍🏻

I love THE sound OF a OLD john DEERE tractor. Go's pop pop. I like grandma did to you when you was a kid to make you act right again

You are correct Ken endes. This is a 1951 model. The holes in the cast wheels were introduced in 1951 which gives away the year... assuming they were original to the tractor.

As far as I know the 1944 model A was hand start only. However, a hand start model is very easy to start when it is running correctly. I have a 1937 model A that I can start with one hand and two spins of the flywheel. Good luck with it!

MrFloydthecat Similar situation with a "B" we had in 60s. No one drove it because too lazy to hand crank. I loved driving it cause it was faster than others. FYI You can also use clutch to hand crank. Some people don't know that. Take out of gear. Push clutch in and turn clutch rather than fly wheel.

+ronaldt491 I have tried that with my B and I can't do it I am only 11 but still it is just too slick.i think that even for a body builder it would be very hard to start that way.

Haha! Your ol' '37 JD Model A could have been "psychic" and able to see you coming outside! Let's see you start her in December! Circa 1964, my Grandpa used to start his Model A with what looked like a separated Steering Wheel to spin that flywheel. He'd be at it approx 15 minutes before I'd hear that Johnny Popper Sound (my summer adventure wake up alarm)!

Owned a 48. The 2 cyl engine could be slowed down to where you could count the firing strokes. T Epp

Thanks for all the nice comments. This tractor runs real smooth, I would like to have the video longer with it at slow idle.

Such a great tractor. Great videos like this keep me inspired to work on tractors and to make videos. I love the sound of an old A and I love the look from the side. Just a nice tractor.

Is this a petrol??? Even in the 30s in Europe most tractors were Diesel, mostly two stroke.
