Terrorists sure, but not on Religious fervour. Palestinian is the same movement as Ireland, South Africa and the Basque way back when. PLO, ANC, IRA, ETA. Damn, this conversation keeps circling and circling through the decades. I want to say though, as someone who hasn't seen this movie in full, the scene is interesting because of one particular thing that Spielberg put in here: the Jewish man said, "You can't take back a country you never had." But a moment later he says, "You'll never get the land back." And then, "Do you really miss your father's olive trees? Do you honestly think you have to get back all that?" This is a huge implication that the land _was_ theirs, and was forcefully annexed. Pretty fucking ballsy for Spielberg to have in his movie. I'm stunned, but that's why he's a master storyteller; he gut punches you with a narrative about people he is told to pretend don't exist.

Palestinian Arabs **lived on** land that became Israel (and some still do), but there was never a nation of Palestine or Palestinian self-government: before the Israelis and the British the land was controlled by the Ottoman Empire, and before that the Romans. The Ottomans legally permitted mass immigration and land sales to Jews, btw, which was met with violent rejection by Arabs which escalated the conflict that led to the Nakba after the Arab League rejected the UN partition plan and declared a war of elimination on what was about to become Israel. That’s what is meant by saying Palestinians “never had” the land, even if they lived on it. Politically speaking they never did, they were allowed to move and live there by the Ottomans while Jewish return was restricted for much of history.

Palestinian guys literally made no sense. He cannot take back a country he never had. We had Kingdom of Israel, house of David, Temple of Solomon, the Western Wall in history. We never have a country called Palestine. Palestine is just a geographical name that was came up by the Roman after Bar Kochba Revolt. And it has nothing to do with the Arabs Palestinian Arabs can live in Arabia. Jewish people live in Judea (aka Israel and Westbank) . End of Story.

It's sad, as Ali came very close to making a realisation and flew straight past it. He recognises that what he does makes him an animal, but offloads the blame to Israel for making him homeless, yet he acknowledges that the Jews were made homeless for centuries, but doesn't acknowledge that the Jewish exile didn't make them animals as well.

Palestinians will either negotiate peace with Israel or keep on losing children in a war they can never win.

He who controls the narrative controls reality, unfortunately. I like Matt Damon's character in this. Reminds me of that chapter in Machiavelli's The Prince. A ruler must have an inner circle of advisors who can tell him the truth in private to avoid embarrassment in public.
