Will the brake cleaner mess up the catalytic?
@ReturningtoBasics2 күн бұрын
No. It also will evaporate well before any problems occur with a coil, boot, piston, or anything else.

That is a great demonstration and answered my long-standing question about what type of paint to use to paint the IBC Totes. Thank you very much. I wanted to know if you painted the bottom of the Totes as well; I just want to make sure. Also, can you please mention the exact paint you used and how many such cans I will need per 330-gallon tote? Thanks in advance! We appreciate your taking the time to educate us.
@ReturningtoBasics5 күн бұрын
You’re welcome! I did not paint the bottoms as they are fully covered by the metal cage. Also, I used Rustoleum enamel (which is alkyd enamel) that I sourced from Home Depot. I used spray cans of Dupli-color adhesion promoter (CP199) to treat the tanks before spraying with black paint…so it would stick. I reduced (thinned) the black paint with about 25-30 percent mineral spirits. Hopefully that information will help you get through the job. Let it dry well before putting the tanks back in the cages. My totes are still holding paint well years later.
@ReturningtoBasics5 күн бұрын
Also, I think I only used two gallons to paint 6 totes. I also used about one to 1.5 spray cans of adhesion promoter per tote.

I have sanded / polished several of my cheap semi-auto pistols (.22lr and 40 S&W Hi-Point) and I have never had a problem at all. I use 3M automotive sandpaper starting in the 320-600 grit range and then move up to 1000, 1500 and sometimes 2000 grit. Polishing the face of the feed ramps can really insure trouble free cycling. I also get a smaller than chamber wire brush on a cheap brass section of cleaning rod, wrap at least 000 or finer (0000) around the brush so it fits snuggly into the chamber. Then chuck the rod in a drill, cost the steel wool / brush with some WD40, CLP, 3 In 1 oil or any type of lubricate and polish out the inside of the shell chamber. This with help insure easier feeding but it will certainly help with failure to extract (FTE) in semi-auto and pump shotguns with some of the cheaper shells that expand and get stuck in the chamber.

An even easier way to get the old oil seals out is run a 3/8 rachechet extension through the assembly and place 4 to 5 dimes spread them apart under the seal cover the dimes and knock the extension on the ground seals out nothing damaged.

I painted my tanks black some years ago. I used a paint for plastic and it has worn off everywhere there is contact between the tank and the cage and some on the tops.Green inside once again! I put 6 mil black plastic around the outside temporarily. This winter, when I drain my tanks I'm going to wrap them in painted wood. My home will serve as one of the 4 walls and I'm going to build a top also. I'm guessing a couple hundred dollars, but they will be shaded, and I'm painting the outside white to match my home. My roof is shingles as well and I use fish tank filter foam in the down pipe that goes into the tank. I simply wash it out after a rain. I also have a first flush and leaf eater.

If it taste good it should be fine. I wouldn’t worry about it. That part is the rhine. The meat is what you should be concerned about. The actual flesh of the fruit. It looks pretty good to me. Try a chunk. If it tastes off then toss it. But if it’s sweet then dig in 😋

Interesting detail on the painting. Have you looked inside after painting to see if any light penetrates the applied film. I am curious as I received a low quality tank of 3,000 gallon capacity that allows a great deal of light through the green pigment . Before placing it in service I want to correct that. Thank you.
@ReturningtoBasics2 ай бұрын
Yes I have and very little light penetrates, only where little spots get scratched. It has totally stopped algae growth. They now have been in service for a number of years and still work great as well as others I have in operation. Thanks for asking and watching.

@ReturningtoBasics hey I tried this but I discovered something. I shot the brake parts cleaner into the spring hole and then with a long rubber tipped blower nozzle I forced the brake parts cleaner to come out from around the outside. Then because I didn't have a 5/8 hole saw bit I used a 3/4, and instead of chucking it up in a drill I put a doubled nut on the bolt so I could turn it with a box end wrench. Then i turned the hole saw bit by hand applying downward pressure and let the hole saw teeth bite into the rubber just a bit and then about another half turn and all the rubber boots broke free and slid right up and out. Nothing damaged at all ! I reused them
@mikerowley35082 ай бұрын
There's a little piece of metal on the inside of the boot that broke off onto the spark plug how can I remove it? I can't unscrew the spark plug now because it's broken off onto the spark plug any suggestions or any videos that you have
@ReturningtoBasics2 ай бұрын
It sounds like you have part of the spring from inside the boot stuck on the spark plug insulator. It shouldn’t be to hard to get off with a pair of long needle nose pliers or a pick. You possibly can remove the protector from inside your spark plug socket and get it to fit over that obstruction. Good luck.
