Do you put the underglaze on bisque and wipe back? Do you re bisque before applying glaze? I am specifically inquiring about your bee tray ❤

On the mug with honey flux, cobalt and seaweed, did you take the HF to the top or keep it only at the bottom? Verylovely!
@bedfordmartialartsacademy77443 ай бұрын
The Honey Flux went all the way to the top. It was three coats of each glaze.

Lots of great pots in this opening! I think I may have been the person with the combination of the wasabi and rainforest ( Maybe, could have been someone else). I call it Florida Seafoam, with 70% Wasabi, 20% Rainforest and 10% Mixing Clear.

I love your kiln openings and look forward to each one! Could you please let me know your firings, I know you said cone 6 --- I have had problems with pin holing lately and I bisque to 04 and fire to cone 6 with G mix Georgie's White clay simular to B mix. I haven't used preheats or holds nothing has changed just much more pin holes. Any suggestions I sure would appreciate! Thank you, Vickie :)
@luckymudpottery10 ай бұрын
Hi, Vickie! I bisque to 05, usually with a 2 hour pre-heat. I fire to Cone 6, but I do have an offset worked in to my firing because my kiln tends to run hot. I hit a solid 6, sometimes slightly over when I fire with the offset. I do a 5 minute hold at the top and shut my fan off right when the kiln stops firing to allow for a natural cool down. I usually only see pin holes on pieces that have a deep texture, and then only rarely.

Thank you so much. I just (re)started doing pottery and I am trying to learn how to use glazes and underglazes. So I appreciate very much how you explain your glazing. About the last plate. What are the white lines around the daisies?
@luckymudpottery11 ай бұрын
When you apply a celadon glaze to texture it will pool in the recesses and leave the raised part a lighter color. So you are just seeing more of the natural clay body showing through the glaze.

Blue surf is the base for midnight rain. I usually glaze blue surf at the bottom when using midnight rain. Reduces the risk of it flowing off the piece.

For the pieces with frosted lemon do you use 2 coats?
@luckymudpottery Жыл бұрын
I usually use 2 coats of the Mayco glazes. I looked back at my notes and for some reason, I used 3 coats on the bowl, 3 coats inside the mug (2 on the outside) and 2 coats on the inside of the cup. I don't really notice a difference between 2 and 3 coats as long as you are applying a decent coat each time.

Oh honey I am soo sorry to hear that you broke your hand!! Ouch!! I hurt my hand badly and it hasn’t healed, it’s been a year 1/2! I couldn’t do anything with clay for 4 months. I made a ton of pinch pumpkins though. And CONGRATULATIONS ON GETTING YOUR BLACK BELT! My husband and I own a martial arts company. Hubby teaches second grade and then karate! lol. I absolutely love the bowls! Welcome back and I’m sooo glad to see you again!! I did several mugs with the cinnabar and sandstone and they all crazed terribly! I’m sure you know this but to help the glazes not look streaky you can apply each layer on a different direction. It’s called crosshatching. The other red I like to use is mayco cordovan it’s a dark red. And of course firebrick red by amaco. I’m commenting as I watch. lol. I LOVE the muddy waters over Norse blue. I don’t think I’ve tried that!! I LOVE THE PLATTER! I’d love to know what glaze brushes you use. I’ve always used mayco fan brushes but they have gotten soo cheap!! I got the number 4 ones and you could completely see through them when you hold them up. Thanks again.
@luckymudpottery Жыл бұрын
Hand injuries are no joke when it comes to being able to do pottery (and martial arts). I hope that your hand is on the mend soon! I do utilize crosshatching when working with known "streaky" glazes, but I have found that extra coverage is key for some of them. I can show my glaze brushes in my next video, but unfortunately, the manufacture info has been completely rubbed off. To be honest, I think I picked them up at Michaels a couple years ago.
