I'm not a boxing fan but a man of 60+ now from Nottingham who remembers going into the snooker club above Rose's jewellers off Clumber St a lot in the early 80's and he was in there a fair few times, chatting to John Rose. Gave my little group of teenage boys a lot of encouragement,my highest break, 57, had Kirkland as a backdrop and cheerleader. I was in an industry where i met a fair few celebrities, Nottingham had very successful football and cricket teams then and Rock City was buzzing but the most memorable, impressive and down to earth was Kirkland. RIP.

To stop 10 hungry fighters from taking the title off you is a great achievement, a world champion doesn't have that same hunger and drive. How many world champions have won the belt only to lose it after 1 fight?

Toney sounded punch drunk way before his boxing career was over - his potential fights with Eubank and Benn would have been too close to call. He may sound punchy but he had a very good ring IQ. However, one barometer may be to say a 40-year-old Michael McCallum held him to a draw - on the flip side Toney stopped Michael Nunn in 11 rounds; Nunn would have given both Benn and Eubank nightmares in the ring with his style, which was similar to Herol Graham who they avoided like the plague. Great lead-up to a decent fight. Thanks for uploading.

They really pulled out all the stops to build this fight, which I thought was unnecessary as everybody interested in boxing wanted to see it anyway (on the back of the first fight) and it sold out in no time with 40,000 in attendance on the night. Nothing wrong with a bit of fun though, as boxing, as hard as it is, is still entertainment for the public.

I was more a Benn supporter at the time, but, as the years have gone by and we see these guys more as entertainers than fighters, it's much more even for me; in fact, I'd call it a draw, much like this fight was!

If Benn had been a bit more controlled in this fight and hadn't hit Eubank with low blows 2 or 3 times, he'd have won - not by much as it was very close, but, those low blows cost him the bout. Eubank looked a light heavy/cruiserweight in there; Benn a middle/super middleweight. Enjoyable and entertaining - now for Part 2.

Just such a likeable amiable personality for all his talent and flamboyance a truly gentle soul. This video was very sad to watch and kirklainds decline was swift after his career ended. Still no one had a bad word to say about him the man was loved by all. British champion on and off for 12 years, european champ at 35...but for racism he shoulda been a GB olympian at 17..beat a near prime Duran...those are incredible achievements..people talk of messed up opportunities but colin jones was a helluva fighter who imo wouldve,to use kirks vehnacular stood starling and breland on their heads...kirks was desperately unlucky during 1990-1991...mickey duff gambled his career away why take the oliva fight in italy where u have to score 2 knockouts to get a split decision loss..and 2 world champs he was primed to fight lost all of a sudden and the 3rd brown decided to fight the 1st new one blocker instead...back in late 87 a honeyghan fight was close...but vaca won a controversial decision...a fight with vaca fell through as honeyghan too a rematch..than inexplicably kirk left duff temporarily in early 88...losing out on a lloyd honeyghan fight. Breland was sposed to fight kirk but lost. Personally i think kirk woukdve stood him on his head and style wise he wouldve easily beat starling. Rest in peace God bless you.

Eubank a class act and Toney showing no class as usual. Benn, well yes a pretty decent guy and one of the hardest punchers to ever enter a boxing ring. However, the only thing that I disliked about Benn was his propensity to hit opponents on the back of the head. He did this way to often in fights and also, on occasion, hit fighters when they were down. I am glad Eubank got the better of Benn with his win in 1990 and the draw in 1993. The only question I want answered is why they never had a third fight considering their second contest was a draw rather than another win for Eubank?

If this man had the discipline he could have been the world welterweight champion. I guess it was just a case of having too much talent, and, because of that neglecting the discipline, sacrifice, and training side of things. RIP Kirk, and thanks for the great boxing memories. Thanks for uploading.
