I believe they "key" to get that "tone" is all the hardware has to be changed . The bridge , tailpiece , wiring , pots ect . The quality of hardware used in the newer custom shop Gibson's is still cheap Chinese pot metal . I swapped out my bridges and tailpieces for higher quality and it made a difference . The factory line Gibson's are even worse . Whenever I hear a tone test comparing the original 50's Gibson to the Custom Shop , I hear the OG Gibson's have more higher end , mids . IMO the cheaper metal is causing the newer stuff to have more low end . The OG metal resonates so much more . Like a bell .

The disappearance of the original Billy ties in with his non-appearance on the cover of Abbey Road. Just too many unanswered questions.

You didn't mention the main thing! Those amps are the GOAT of Edge! They're as expressive as it gets. Nothing is even close. Please, Vox, make more!

My first tube amp back in the 70s was a Traynor Bassmaster. I was playing in a few different bands. One was a Neil Young tribute band and one, long before the White stripes or black Keys, was just me on guitar and vocals and a drummer. I plugged the guitar and mic into the Traynor and it ripped. I think I had a whole 2 pedals. A fuzz and a wah. And a good SG copy. 2x15 cab. Weighed more than me. Carted it around to gigs in my '69 Polara 500. Those were the days...

The only thing that sounds different is that washed out speaker in the original. I preferred the new one (more bite, more high end, more bass) and I bet the old one sounded just like the reissue back in the day when the speaker was still fresh. You can clearly hear that the amp itself sounds/behaves identical. People are just stupid for preferring the “broken” tone of old amps with bleeding components and shifted values. Sure, some of them sound good that way but many are just more muffled …or “warm” as the snobs like to say. 😅 I own many vintage and new amps. Often the new ones (when done correctly!) sound closer to the recordings of the era in which the originals were made. This should tell you something about the fetish for old electronic parts.

The Marshall 18-watt is the stuff of legends-pure tube power at its finest. After all my research, I decided to pick up a Sound City Studio 20 since it’s said to be pretty similar. I’ve got a video up on my channel if you’re interested! The cleans are solid, but it’s the overdrive that really takes it to another level. Let me know what you think!

In the old pictures of Billy he was tall and overweight. When we saw him next he was short and very skinny, he would have had to lose well over 100 pounds to look the way he does now. The MTV video tunes were, for the most part, crap nothing like the old stuff. He would have had to sell out to make those videos, but they made "him" a butt-load of money so.........

A good tele is better than a Les Paul. No seriously. For me its how they sit in the mix. Slice like a lime and don't cost 500k. All while getting 95% of the tone of a good burst.
