As hooked as I am on these regency novels, it doesn’t surprise me at all that those ridiculous women took so long to be found worthy as equal righted part in society. They are spoiled, arrogant and ignorant. They are the very ones who create the stupid rules of morality and reputation among themselves. They are the very ones to disrepute other women and to shun them from their midst. In reality these regency women are disgusting.

Surely not…. Surely she will tell Adelia and Briar about the Duchess’ threat and not steal. Only one hour in and ready to skip forward. No Way!!! I now do not like Eliza and she Definitely is not worthy of Gilbert. I cannot believe she was so stupid. I skipped forward to hear the last few chapters. A satisfying ending though I am not sure it would have had so few consequences for Eliza in that era. Maybe I can listen to the middle chapters now. I am not sure what Gilbert sees in her. In my opinion this match could never work. She is clearly not ready for marriage and they will encounter fallout from her trust issues. I know it is brave to confess but she leaves it too late for someone struggling with conscience. After all Baxter is a Magistrate, Fletcher a leading barrister and Gilbert a vicarious. The whole family is justice driven and honest. Even her friendship with Adelia would be strained. I love your books. I just think this is a bit unrealistic. And my favourite scene is where Gilbert stands up to Baxter on Eliza’s behalf.

Thanks for the concepts you have investigated here. Adelia is having a spiritual crisis due to having been manipulated by an indifferent parent. So when Phineas truly discovers peace in his marriage she does not recognise it as authentic. Her nervous system has been busy fighting to feel safe emotionally for 3 years and she does not understand love. All she knows is that she feels deep guilt for manipulating just like her father did. This has caused spiritual angst. If only there had been a Vicar on the boat. Instead she is reactive and catastrophic in her thinking, a normal trauma response. My favourite scene is the image of her spinning around in the rain, finally calm and refreshed. It is how we all feel when we finally understand the love, belonging and forgiveness that comes with knowing God personally and not just wishful thinking.

What a horrible family Rosalind has, along with her maid. But isn’t Archie lovely. I am so glad he married her. It was the best rescue from the awful Duke. My favourite scene is their picnic and rowing day. I also found Archie’s fishing activity with Edwin hilarious. The story of “Little Miss” truly was haunting. Thank you for sharing this delightful story with us.

Oh Baxter you idiot. Get on your knees man. He is So bad at wooing that he makes her want to leave the Continent. That is quite an achievement. Thanks so much for this story. Several times I felt my jaw drop at the audacity of Baxters insults. It was lively, fiery and passionate and so much fun to listen to. My favourite scene was their first meeting. However I also really enjoyed Baxter as Magistrate putting Mr James in his place. And Phineas reaction in the snowball fight. This book was read a little faster than I am used to so I stopped many times if I missed something. I wonder which Fernley brother is next.

I liked book one and two very much especially cause they are clean romance, however i find it very hard to listen to this book (please take this as a constructive criticism to a novelist i becaming a big fan of and i am not trying to be rude)the description of Egypt and the people and religion doesn't much what was Egypt like in the 1800s 1-Alexandria was not a complete desert at all 2- despite the fact that Egypt is well known for its camels, horses where fairly used since 1700 BC 3-the major religions in Egypt during 1800s was Islam and Christianity There were no pagan Gods since 49 AC i think I am still in the beginning of chapter 3 but i will try to listen to it as a work of complete fiction just because i am invested in this series and your writing Thanks

Angela, thanks for this. But tell me why your heroes often get battered to near death? Arundel, next book to this the hero goes blind if I remember correctly, and our dear Alexander gets abducted and almost dies.

Each storyline builds itself. I really don't set out to cause my heroes such distress, but a few of them do go through a lot. I guess it helps build their character.

I love the sister’s relationships. My sister reminds me of Elizabeth and I relate to the way Jane thinks. But I guess Elizabeth is a better heroine. And I love Mr and Mrs Bennets love for comedic value. It’s hard to pick a favourite hero and heroine but Persuasion is very passionate. I love how Miss Bates loves everybody in Emma.

If you are re-working the Earl books I’ll just mention that acrylic paint wasn’t invented till 1934 or used till even later. I didn’t want to stress you with that till I heard this. So just mentioning it in case it’s helpful. Historical accuracy isn’t always everything because fiction is fiction and early books are a starting place that show how far you’ve come. As do Jane’s Austens early books. So no worries. 💖 I really loved the book about the lady novelist and saw 4444 in the views which was a wonderful sign from the universe.

Half way through the book and I find Adelia the only sensible one. She is respectful, polite and knows what she wants. Yeah, she was desperate for the guy, but I wouldn’t call it teenage drama, cause her desperation was driven by fear of eternal loneliness. She was already referred to as a spinster even by her own father and brother. Both Fernley and her father were selfish and greedy, but she was compassionate, she believed that the treasures of Egypt belonged to its people and nobody else. And she truly cared about her maids and their values, even though they didn’t bat an eyelash before betraying her and didn’t even apologize to her. I kinda hate every other character except Adelia.

2:26:53 “Even the king had married [...]. Queen Charlotte was from Germany.” Yes, indeed. (And definitely not black, by the way) But the king also was from Germany. So his wife wasn't really from outside of his society.
@angelaejohnsonsweetromanceАй бұрын
Thanks for listening. I don't think I discussed Queen Charlotte's skin color, if I did, I apologize. I'm quite certain that is a topic of Bridgerton. I haven't done enough research to comment on the matter further. I do agree, King George III heritage was from Germany, but he was technically born at Norfolk House in England. That is why I wrote it the way I did. But, I do apologize if it caused confusion. Thank you for your comment and helping to clear up any confusion this passage may have caused for you and other readers.
@lottalehmАй бұрын
@@angelaejohnsonsweetromance Oh no, please don't. There is no need to apologize. In the case of Queen Charlotte, I wasn't actually referring to your story, but to the current discussion sparked by the Bridgerton series. In the case of George's parentage, I just wanted to add an interesting and little known piece of information. I live in Hanover, where his roots lie. I would also like to say that I really enjoy all your stories, but I am happy to live in the 21st century and to be able to choose my own path in life as a woman.

@@lottalehm Thank you! I completely agree about being thankful to live in this time period. Knowing my luck, if I had lived in an earlier century I would have been the servant in charge of emptying chamber pots. And that just doesn’t appeal to me. ☺️

Archie needs to send the vicars daughter to ask the vicar for "the long wait". My Uncles found it very useful to send them to their mother to ask for the long wait when they were working on cars etc, when eager females wouldn't take the hint that they were busy. My uncles insisted that they couldn't complete the job without it.

Your narrator is so passionate. I just finished 3:41 and her heart wrenching reading is brilliant. This book is so sad. Your acknowledgement of two different people living under the roof of a neglectful father, is just so sad. These two characters want such different things. Her own father acknowledged how terrible he is... I completely agree. He's terrible. I don't see how these two should ever be together, except for the compassion and "free ticket" Mr. Fernely can provide. It's not a modern reason to marry. But I can't help but think Fernely could marry her and send her to Gigi to live in England while he lives his life across the world. But that's not a happy ending either. I need a book club to discuss this plot!

I wondered at them being matched until they met the Suttons on the boat. I also realised Adelia has been manipulated for so long that she does not know who she is fully. I can now see how grounding herself for a time in England and being with other ladies will help her discover her adventurous side. She has enough determination to enjoy riding an elephant in India and visit Greek ruins with Phineas. He suits her because his character is stable and patient.
