In British, the past tense of sneak is sneaked . Snuck is the American past tense. Also we move towardS something, not toward

Yes, too many Americanisms in the text as well as modernisms, but the writer looks very young and no doubt educated in the US, and not steeped in British ways of thinking and speaking.

Thanks I was wondering about this. Which it is..sneaked or snuck. I'm South Africa were taught British English. And sometimes with the Internet world one gets confused with the American words and pronunciations. I like the British pronunciations because it is so clear.

Didn't a kiss mean people were engaged in those times? I'm pretty sure even after the engagement Darcy did not kiss Eliza... This is very confusing.

What was extremely proper and straight laced and what was sometimes done...well, I hope with all my heart that if a man and woman were in agreement to marry then they shared at least an affectionate kiss and hug. Though not one that would compromise them. In my faith we just had a study article today that had to do with 'courtship' and what it means and does not mean. About proper displays of public affection and what is reasonable and not. Makes me think of a line in the Barbara Streisand/Jeff Bridges movie-The Mirror Has Two Faces. "How can I agree to marry someone I haven't even kissed?" Desire and affection are important but if yet unmarried...keep it in its place. Not just for yourself(i mean that in general, not You personally) but for the person you are contemplating also. Not how it is usually done today, unfortunately.
