It's crazy that so many people just spend hours into such assets to just render them for such short and tiny scene. I am used to creating game assets and can't see to just spend so much time for such video to impress people. My huge respect.
@DamSchoolАй бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words and respect! Just to clarify, I didn’t create this piece to impress anyone, I genuinely love working on personal projects. For me, it’s about pushing the tech as far as I can and exploring what’s possible. With Freelancing taking up so much time, these projects are a refreshing way to reconnect with creating art. While this turned into a 20-second video, the assets could absolutely be used in a game. This project taught me a lot about Unreal, and I’m excited to say my upcoming piece will be much longer. Plus I am actually surprised this one got so much attention.. Cheers!
@MrGTAmodsgermanАй бұрын
@@DamSchool Oh then you like me. Because i would only do this for such cases to learn Unreal or simular. But a lot of people do this to put it on they portfolio as a example piece to impress people. Which i also did and quite feels like waste of time. It turned out great. Expecially considering you haven't photoscanned anything and just used Painter.

Your work is stunning and I desperately want to follow your course but it is simply out of reach for me price wise. I wish you could provide another option for some of us who cannot afford it.
@DamSchool2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! I understand that the price might be challenging for some, but please know that this course is crafted to deliver immense value, equivalent to what you’d find in a high-level art school program and even more, but at a fraction of the cost. My goal is to equip artists with truly in depth skills that will elevate their work. For those not yet ready to invest, I do share free content to make learning more accessible; however, creating that content is very time intensive, so with my current work I’ve had to slow down for now. I appreciate your understanding and I'll do my best too release more free stuff soon.

Thanks for the tutorial, is the DistanceTex map appropriate to create a fillet between two objects intersecting each other ? (MentalRay had this feature back in the day)
@Taumisch3 ай бұрын
Finally, I found that the Edgetex can do what I'm looking for.
@DamSchool3 ай бұрын
@@Taumisch hey! yes I was about to say, but you can tweak the distance tex to create also fake welding beetwen objects
@Taumisch3 ай бұрын
@@DamSchool, yeah I check on Chaos' website all the applications of the distance tex, and it's pretty impressive and useful. The thing is that the distance tex can apply only on one of the intersecting object (if I'm not mistaken) so I think that the effect wouldn't be on point for welding effect or filletting.
@DamSchool3 ай бұрын
@@Taumisch I mean welding two different object not just the elements together. I used this few times when I wanted to fake glossiness between edges. But you would need both object to inter penetrate to make sure you'll have this intersections.
@Taumisch3 ай бұрын
@@DamSchool, what I had in mind is welding like on the frame of a bike, is it what you meant ? Si je dis pas de conneries le distance tex ne s'applique qu'a un seul des deux objets qui s'interpénètrent, du coup l'effet se fait après l'intersection, pas pile poil par dessus.

what kind of grass is it? can i paint it on a large landscape with a forest nearby? something like that? id love more info about this
@DamSchool5 ай бұрын
Not sure I understand your question? You can do whatever you want but keep it mind that this grass was meant to be used in Vray so it s a little bit more heavy. You can use it in Unreal but make sure it s converted to Nanite first!
@Dhieen5 ай бұрын
@@DamSchool Ok yeah, i did some smaller grass because this one was too big Id love to make grass with rocks like in your thumbnail, id love to see how does your unreal engine scene looks with this grass, about the shader you created, and the technical settings, because if you paint alot of grass on a big landscape it starts to lag very fast So to fix that i set my grass without any opacity, only mesh, and enabled nanite, i have good fps with this, and what is costing alot is wind animation, so i disabled it at a certain distance I would have lvoed to know this before

Thetips at the end of the video are really cool But if i import that into unreal engine 5, will i have wind setup ? how does it works? can i do some color variation? how about optimization? Will i be able to paint a huge terrain with this grass?
@Kale_1166 күн бұрын
If you correctly import it into UE5.5 with Atlases enabled the import should spit out 4 or so material instances (for larger assets.. instead of 13 different material lol) All of which are hooked up to a master that supports the speedtree node. (Only the wind though you have to set up your texture adjustments diy. I believe you can simplify the polys after rendering the animation, it's just that high at this stage to get good animation results. Nanite doesn't support advanced wind shaders, or at least not yet.. but you can set up LOD materials that drop the animation at distance.. Yea 48k tris for a grass asset will eat you system if you're trying to play realtime.

Why do you use Unreal to render the scene, what are the benefits to using Unreal over Blender or Octane/ Arnold or something else.
@DamSchool8 ай бұрын
Because I never seen something that fast and it's also real-time when working on the lighting. Which is helpful if you wan to quickly see the desired results contrary to the ones you mentioned.

Thanks for the lesson. Is it possible to change texture for some parts of steams? Or it's always one material for all the copies of trunks+fronds?
@DamSchool8 ай бұрын
It is one material per fronds, but for that I would just reduce the amount, duplicate the node, and apply a different shader on the new one.

Thank you! Most of it by myself yes, I mean that's how I started and then I got feedbacks from awesome peps in the industry. But I have the advantage of coming from the 3d industry so I just applied what I knew when working on a movie or else, and translate it into Ue. I would say just practice, do it, do it again, and again until you reach your happy spot. Ue is not easy, watch tutorials, learn from people in the industry, youtube is great but always quite bad when it comes to tutorials. Feel free to shoot question if you have, good luck!
