Many years ago I was hit in the face shield by a large bird. I was doing about 80 mph on the freeway. It cracked but did not penetrate the shield. There was blood everywhere, I was completely blinded. Until I managed to get the shield open. It almost knocked me off the bike, and did a lot of soft tissue damage in my neck. It took weeks to recover, and now that I'm getting older, I'm starting to have pain in my neck, and can't turn my head as far as I used to. I was wearing a full face helmet. Had I been wearing an open face helmet and sunglasses, or no helmet, I would not be here right now.

Quick question for you, if you have the time? When you are planning your multi day trips, how do you determine how far you will go for each day ? Do you have a set distance you like to achieve, or ride for so many hours a day? My guess is road type/condition, status re two lane vs four lane, services/gas, etc, plays a factor. But for this trip, and the road type/condition in this video, what parameters did you use to plan the amount you wanted to cover each day? Do you have minimums and maximums you like to cover?
@AdventureTravelandScuba
@AdventureTravelandScuba Ай бұрын
I sit down and plan it in Google maps spend few days looking for towns and campsites where * would end up at around 5pm more or less, unfortunately still sometimes it will take more time than planned, depends what's interesting is there to see, short break every 3,4 hours as well as the ass gets sore no matter what lol. I'm not picky where I will sleep preference close to River or lake to be able to wash myself. I prefere not more than 600km per day but some days on interstate we can push longer even up to a 1000 km. I don't depend on restaurants as mostly cooking myself canned food or a chunk of meat or sausage over a campfire, bought at the stop in any food store. The plan is always roughing in, also sometimes we find an interesting road and we go for it planning while camping and always double checking in the evening before heading out next day. I have each day separated on my GPS as a separate trip. I did many trips also without a plan at all, if something goes wrong like last year when two of our bikes broke down on Idaho BDR the plan had to be totally scrapped as we needed to stick to pavement. In that situation it was the new olan at each end of the day still to make the best out of the time that we are on the road. Main thing is to be ready for everything tools spare tubes or tire repair kits and satellite messenger for when we would really get in trouble with the first aid kit as well. Just do a rough plan and go for it, it always will be an awesome ride no matter what comes your way and great memories. Most of us are also mechanically inclined so between all of us we can take care of most problems ourselves. I did some trips muscled sometimes separated from friends for a day if I want to take different route . But it's great to have at least one buddy when you go out for a few days it's more fun that way.
