You can also rename the devices in the LocalSend settings. It can become quite confusing if you have multiple devices with names such as special onion or fantastic tomato. And for syncing the clipboard, there is also an app called KDE Connect. It was originally developed to better integrate Android with KDE Plasma (Linux), but as it is open source it is also available for Windows, iOS and (I assume) macOs. Among many other features, it allows you to one-way sync the clipboard from your computer to your phone and the other way around with one tap. So if you copy something into the clipboard on your computer, it immediately gets copied to the phone over the local network. However, sometimes it doesn’t connect unless you open the app on-the-go phone.

Is it possible to have those (reference) apps on another profile(e.g. AppRepo). Will those appear on the 'Install Available Apps' option when create/switch to one more profile(e.g. Cautious)? I'm thinking of keeping the owner profile 'empty', no additional apps.
@sideofburritosКүн бұрын
Unfortunately, no. Install available apps is only possible from owner. Someone suggested installing apps from owner, disabling Play Store there. Then have another profile with Play Store and use that to update the apps (since they're already installed). That may be an option I look into in the future, just an extra step.
@reclee833318 сағат бұрын
@@sideofburritos So perhaps later, it will be like one profile with Play Store then both download and update are done there. With Play Store disabled most of the time.
@sideofburritos10 сағат бұрын
More so initial installations done from owner, then disable play store here. Then update apps from another user profile with play store and only use owner to install new apps. Since you only need to do the initial install from owner to do “install available apps”.

That's pretty slick looking, I never heard of Snapdrop. From some quick, testing, his looks very similar to LocalSend, it also discovers over the local network. It also seems a bit less private since it's through a website. But more convenient for sure. edit: did some more testing, so my original assumptions were wrong.

@sideofburritos5 күн бұрын
I left the default settings for network access for the default apps installed in owner. You don't need to use Play Services in the other profiles if you don't want to, it's optional. If you do want to, you can install them from the 'Apps' app.

No. You and the other devices connected to the hotspot will be assigned internal, private IP's. The transfer will take place over that internal/private network.

Cool discovery, thank you :) I think its a bit inconvenient as you say to use for a lot of users if you are on a VPN so I just end up sending files to myself via Signal :)
@AndrewSmith-ir1ui5 күн бұрын
I think sometimes Signal will resize an image file to be 'helpful' and I don't want it to. That Said, I'd be lost without having Signal to transfer stuff across.
@sideofburritos5 күн бұрын
That's my main reason for not liking Signal for transferring photos. You have the option to set the media quality when sending a photo (Standard and High), but they still do some compression on the image. With LocalSend you get the file as is, unaltered.

Can this handle sending between profiles on the same device? Can it handle this on loopback, or does it need some WiFi infrastructure to facilitate?
@sideofburritos6 күн бұрын
I don't believe so. I just test it and since one user profile is already using the port, the other can't listen. I believe Syncthing can listen on the loopback so you can transfer between profiles with that (I've never done it though).

Thanks for another wonderful instructional video. I've been using Localsend for quite some time and it's simply awesome. I don't know why, but I never imagined you as a Mac OS user. More like an Open BSD guy. :) Anyway, the thing you mentioned in the video for copying the text from one device to another is pretty neat.
