I plan on buying your printable when i get the money. But I've used your video to make a pain version using the index cards that i already had. I've been using this method more, and seeing that it does keep me on track. My only thing is trying to use this method to prep for home-school as well. I really am trying

I'm not quite following how things get "filed". do you have a reference for that? Seems like it should be intuitive but I heard you say something like, "file this in front of the day" and I was like, "I have no idea what she means!" Help! If we are filing "monthly" in front of the month and weekly in front of the week...I'm just not following when I "check" that particular area. I had assumed they would be in "order" of needing to do them day by day...sorry! I'm stuck!

No worries - Happy to help! First, in your card deck you have cards and dividers. The cards contain the actions you would like to take. Some actions are reoccurring where others are more "project" based. For example, cleaning your floors is probably something you'll do once a week to maintain a clean home. Following up on your insurance call you had last week with your broker next Friday is a "project" card where you may add notes and phone numbers needed - once the project is completed, it's recycled. The dividers help you know when to do the cards, or the action. You have a divider for each date and month of the year. You might have other miscellaneous dividers as well for storing blank cards, or keeping recipes, etc. The dividers are organized so that you have whatever month you are currently on showing up first, for example - July is on top. Then, you have August behind it, September, and so on through the end of 2024. The January divider behind December stands for January of 2025, as does each month we've already gone through in 2024 - February-June. The date dividers function in the same way with the date you are currently on on top, through the end of the month -- in our case, July. The dates we've already gone through 1-24 are placed in front of August. That's the initial setup. I'll share the card shuffling function in a comment following this (first I need to pick up a kid :)).

@@timeandtideplans already so helpful! thank you. I think I'm getting stuck on the "days" to assign cards too as well when they are weekly or monthly. Thank you!!!
@timeandtideplans3 ай бұрын
Once you have your foundation set up with your dividers, then start by writing all actions you take on a routine basis down on the cards. Note how frequently you take the action - daily, every other day, weekly, etc. Once you have a good start on writing down actions, decide what days of the week you will tackle different actions. For example- Wednesdays I take on administrative work like phone calls, bill paying, etc. if you do these actions weekly, you’ll place those cards on top of the upcoming Wednesday divider, which in our case is the 31 divider. When the 31 divider comes around you’ll take care of all of those cards and shuffle them to the next Wednesday divider, which would be the 7 divider. I use a month card with a calendar on it as reference that I shuffle each day - lets me know that next Wednesday is the 31st when I need to move those weekly cards over, or assign monthly action cards to days at the start of the month. For daily cards you simply shuffle the cards in front of the next day’s divider - from the 25 to in front of 26. For seasonal, annual or monthly tasks you would place the card in front of the month divider until you get to that month. The. Assign each card to a date divider where you will most likely get to it. For example, filing taxes might be something you do on an annual basis. Placing it in front of the February divider might make sense for you. Then as January is finishing up, you assign all monthly/seasonal/etc actions in front of the February date divider that makes most sense. So, for me that would be a Wednesday date divider in February.

Great video. I'd like to know how it's going with your morning pages three years later. I started Morning Pages only 36 days ago, and it's intriguing to see what has developed, as each day I have no idea when I start writing. There are these characters that have appeared: Dr Ik, who speaks on behalf of my conscious rational self; Idio, who is the great repository of everything my senses have digested, and brings back memories from the past, and long forgotten childhood memories too; Geni, the tutelary spirit, with her hope, insights and wisdom (she is a woman of few words at present); Lucidia, the winged scribe who captures little details, like the candle burning low, the wind outside, or rain falling, etc. She makes no judgements, but only captures data like a stenographer. And then finally there's the antagonist Squawk, the raven, critical and bitingly truthful, who will gloat at putting the mirror of past sins and present fears in my face. Together we are sailing on a yacht to Elysian Bay across the ocean.

Not going to read all the other replies, but my take away from walking a lot is, a, if you can't do it you are mentally weak, b, doing it for weight loss not going to work, c, calorie counters on step trackers are way off, d, all the things she talks about facetime etc, you are on a stroll, not a walk, a walk is 4 to 4.5 mph

I have not been able to figure this out… HOWEVER, I just put together my 12-week year plan and this is what I’ve decided!!! I’m not going to work with your regular index card system (this first time). I’m only going to focus on my 12-week year. I already have all my rhythms and routines down, so I don’t need cards to do any of those things. But, I have a couple larger projects I want to finish before November. So, my new goal is to do two back to back 12-week years and then in 2025 I’ll decide if I want to keep the focus going on new 12-week years and if I need to add in rhythms and routines to my card deck. I’m MUCH older than you so this deck is hard for me to do because most of the cards don’t even apply to me so it was just too confusing. I’m hoping by FINALLY doing a 12-week year I’ll be motivated to keep this practice going one right after the other. I have so many projects I want to complete, so I just need to get started and I’m hoping this shift will make this possible. I’ll let you know. BTW, I’ve missed seeing your videos!! I hope you are doing well and enjoying your summer.

Hi Jenn, I'm struggling with your index card planning system. It's really difficult for me to know how long tasks will take. When I create the 12-week plan, I tend to be too ambitious and plan too many hours each day. Could you make a video addressing time blindness and provide tips on how to plan more realistically? Thank you!❤
@timeandtideplans5 ай бұрын
Happily! Thank you for the suggestion. In the meantime, an exercise that has helped me is to track my time. Laura Vanderkam's book, 168 Hours talks about this concept and how to do it for improving your scheduling. With that being said, I still struggle with being realistic about how long things take me (or when it comes to things I do want to do and am putting them off - how little time they actually take). Have your read The 12 Week Year - I know, another book 🤣A tactic you could use from the book is to time block your day. Incorporating a "buffer hour" - an hour of time to take care of what you didn't get done or a designated time in your day where you'll focus on whatever the day brings up you hadn't planned for. I have a video where I time blocked here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYOkeqWGi5iInKc

Jenn, are your cards typing paper or card stock? I noticed they don't get creased or wrinkled. (never mind, I just read all the comments on this video, you had already answered my question! 😄)
@timeandtideplans5 ай бұрын
🙌 just your regular printer paper on everything, but the dividers. They do get wrinkly if I put them in my pocket or my purse for reference. Sometimes they get coffee or food stains if I have them sitting on the counter, but I can just print out a new one if it gets too bad.
