I noticed a lot of people standing in the river and fishing (under the bridge crossing the river after Aioi station). What would they be catching, some sort of local trout or salmon?
Why the comments about speed? It's tramway, not shinkansen The entire length of track is open to people and animals.

Thank you for posting. Painfully slow tram. Can’t imagine this ever making any money. Must be heavily subsidised. How many millions did it cost to build this? 😢

Only a politician who never uses public transport would think this noisy, bell clanging, message announcing, slow moving tram system was great. The station announcements are terrible. Money should have been spent on a better route and system.

2:04 - 70 speed limit then straight away back to 60. truly bizarre.
@tacitdionysus322013 күн бұрын
Let's do a comparison of actual numbers instead of just saying its "slow" Parramatta L4 - 12km, 32 minutes, average speed 22kph - Mostly street running, including along two pedestrianised streets, some on right of way. Canberra Light Rail - 12km, 15 minutes, 48 kph - Almost all on own right of way, with some street crossings traffic control lights). Gold Coast G-Link - 20km, 45 minutes, average speed 27 kph - Mostly street running, including city centre, some on right of way. Melbourne trams - whole system - average speed 15.5 kph - Mostly street running, some rights of way, some pedestrianised streets Conclusions - The Parramatta Light Rail is consistent in speed with other systems with substantial on-street running, including substantial pedestrianised sections where it is limited to 10 kph. - Its speed on own right of way is similar to other systems - up 70 kph, with slower limits in areas where it is manoeuvring. - The speed in the pedestrianised areas appears unnecessarily slow due to absence of pedestrian traffic due to day /time of day. - The reason the Canberra Light Rail is faster is because it is operating almost the whole time in its own right of way, with traffic lights at crossing streets. I would be much more concerned it it was being driven at Canberra system speeds, as the route is not suitable or safe for that.
@ziggybadans13 күн бұрын
Noo, what are you doing!! How dare you use actual facts and logic! I want to be able to complain about a method of transport that is slightly slower at the cost of being much more frequent, safe and convenient!
@harrygoldun577912 күн бұрын
What a crock, nowhere on the Melbourne system is there a continuous stretch of track limited to 40 kmh or less. And off course travel times vary depending on the time of day. Even with shared roadways the street speed is followed. I have never seen so many speed signs on any system than on this. Tram reservations away from cars and foot traffic sees a variation of speeds that are all over the place. Like big brother watching, you can't use your own initiative on providing a safe speed, you have to be spoon fed every so many metres along the track. Seriously building something with so many twists and turns is pathetic. Biggest joke next to the Newcastle light rail. A bus service would have been better. It's crap, slow as and if people use it, they are nuts.
@tacitdionysus322012 күн бұрын
@@harrygoldun5779 Good for you. I just researched the factual performance information and quoted it. Obviously the speed is based on end to end travel including stops. I know Melbourne trams get along quite fast at times.They also get stopped for periods of time too. I also only quoted the overall Melbourne system average. The info included slow (78 - 14 kph) and fast routes (86 - 25 kph). If you disagree, search 'average speed of Melbourne trams' to verify what I have said. If you think it is incorrect or misrepresentative, please explain why. That would make for an interesting discussion rather than just putting shit on everything. I've tried to give a reasonably courteous sort of reply above, but your language indicates you might not understand that sort of wording, so I'll replicate it in your style for you: "What a crock. I looked up the figures and you're wrong. Trams in Melbourne are so bad that had to make them free so people would even use them. Worst state in the world for Covid lockdowns, and you talk about big brother! Most of your trams aren't even fully accessible. Biggest joke next to the suburban rail loop. At least we're allowed have cities like Parramatta within the metro area. The Paris end of Melbourne. What crap. You never hear anyone talk about the Melbourne end of Paris do you. Just Saying....
@harrygoldun577912 күн бұрын
@tacitdionysus3220 bravo! Well said. Had seen one vlog where he stated it was fast, along with many others on various pages heaping praise on it. I am looking at the view point of being a pax, sitting through an excruciatingly slow crawl from Westmead to Church St. The way it's been designed doesn't seem to favour speeds at 60 kmh, grassed areas having a speed sign slowing progress for long sections. That's want I am noting. Yes Melbourne has it's issues, an established system that still runs slice of high floor vehicles, a few choke points, but overall a much better experience than sitting in that Parramatta tram, withholding the urge to scream at the driver to put the foot down, so to speak. You can present as many facts as you like, but in reality, travelling on a tram giving it a thumbs up or down is what matters, for me, I am never going to bother with it, when back in Sydney. Not going to waste valuable time sitting in that thing, when a bus would get me there faster. An ill thought out project. Oh and just look at the dead streets in town. No life at all, tram occupation has killed it for Parramatta CBD.
@tacitdionysus322012 күн бұрын
@@harrygoldun5779 Yeah. That driver is one of the slower ones, especially just out of Carlingford. I rode it on the first day, with a couple of different drivers (they change near the depot at Rosehill Gardens). One drove a lot more briskly, yet still within the limits???? It's much, much busier than that usually. I suspect the reason the streets look so dead is because it's on or about one of the recent public holidays over Xmas / New Year. Usually Eat Street is pumping a bit, although a few had a hard time with disruption during construction. If you want a brisk ride, the new metro through the city is the best bet. The stations on that section are also pretty impressive. I always find light rail a bit ordinary. More looking forward to the Western Sydney Airport Light Metro, opening in 2027 (technically 31/12/26). It's got an elevated section that looks interesting.

I am a Canadian that has lived in Australia for the better part of 13 years. The thing what I hear most standing on platforms are: "a 2 min delay?' And how and why cant they get this straight to running on time? The Trains are running too slow! Boo Hoo. You poor little spoiled princesses (I'm talking about men and women). And I mean that statement in the nicest possible way - NOT. Be happy that YOUR state Govt' cares so much about their population that they invested all this money on YOU. The Canadian Govt would never do that, not to mention the provinces. And you are NOT standing out in the cold on a -20C day with the windchill down to -35C waiting for transit that never comes - with little shelter. IF and IF my original Govt had done this for me - I would be jumping for joy - thankful and GRATEFUL. But Canada itself does not have the population to do this - and Australia has the same Population to fund this?? Stop your whining. Go cry me a river and tell me how hard done by you all are. Get real little princesses, wipe your butts, and get up. Stop feeling sorry for yourselves that life is so bad, FU. Ask what YOU can do for your country, Not what your country can do for you. (Yes I'm quoting JFK) I am THANKFUL for this lvl of transit whereas I've never had it before. Where naturally born Australians - DO NOT. You Australians are all sounding like that joke about the plane full of Brits/10C Pommies that when the engine shuts off, you can still hear the whine. Pathetic. Whine and Complain - it never stops with Australians. And just to make a point - I have SEVERAL cousins that work at Whistler...need I say more? Australians are not exactly the sharpest tools in the shed. Go on, Debate me on this. I challenge you. Australians can do better. I know many Australians that know and have the ability to do better than act their shoe size in showing how to bald their tires on wet pavement??? many of them behind the wheel (Males) have smaller pinky fingers than they think they have. Sorry. Just making a valid point.

Wonder what the desired outcome was intended to be. Are the outer stops intended to be park and ride startions with large car parks to discorage road traffice entering the city? Otherwise far too many stops in the city centre and far too few on the outer parts of the journey, the locals in the suburbs will just make the judgement that it is too far to walk to the stop and the people making journeys in the central area will just walk as it is quicker. if the tram ran further out to the suburbs (I imagine this is the plan) then the slow speed city section is somewhat mitigated.

It's because the part of the line from Rosehill Gardens to Carlingford was original a mostly single-track rail line, and while the rest of the track was converted to double track light rail, there was not enough space under the bridge. It may be reconstructed one day, but not anytime soon.
