How come you used a 5W resistor for the current sense? If you get a short circuit on the output it will far exceed this anyway until current limiting drops the voltage to basically zero. If you have any load attached, the power should be dissipated in the load unless the load itself has a tiny resistance, in which case you're again dropping up to 12v across basically a short circuit (current limiting should again turn this off). Building my own power supply as a project and decided to heavily base it off this design as it ticks the same boxes as I wanted (except I will be working with a 2A limit). Just curious as to why you chose 5W as opposed to either ~12W to match the short circuit rating your supply could output or a standard 1W or less resistor since current limiting will handle shorts anyway. Would love your thoughts, cheers

Most of these circuits are incapable of handling a decent load while keeping the sine wave intact. In those cases I usually just run a square wave into a transformer. On the secondary you will have your sine wave.

the idea to use BJTs won't work for negative voltage, since the BJTs only pass current in one direction.

Hi @SineLab, your tutorials are always great, and I always learn something new from them! I have a question: for adaptive current control based on torque (low torque = low current, high torque = high current) using MOSFETs, should we implement it using feedback from the shunt resistors or the back-EMF of the coils? Can you answer in one or two lines?

Thanks! I enjoyed the detailed screenshots of the scope and schematics so I could follow along at home with my own equipment. Also, may I suggest you add links (cards) in KZbin Studio so they link to other videos you made as you talk about them (e.g. "Ultimate Guide to Transistors"). Is the schematic at 3:07 correct? I built this and put in a 50khz signal, and all I'm getting is a lower amplitude sine wave with a bit of distortion on the downward slope (a "bump"). Very simple circuit, and I've checked all my values and pinouts numerous times. One thing is I'm not clear at what point is the output of the sine wave?

Hmm... For Q7-Q10, Q14 and maybe Q11-Q12, I'd have probably used a 74xx4066 rather than all those 2N7002's. One SOIC-14 is an easier soldering job than eight SOT-26's, and those transistors are all right next to one another in the circuit. (Didn't go through the schematic in detail to look for other things like that.) Did it really simplify your layout that much to use all those 74LVC1G04 rather than six-packs? If you have only a few components on the back side of the board, you can use paste with a lower melting point and reflow with hot air. Easier than hand soldering, at least with my shaky hands. I've built a few mirrors recently with DMMT5401 matched pairs. They seem to work pretty well, but I don't have your measurement tools. The biggest single takeaway from this video is that analog IC's (and ADC's and DAC's) are amazing things that you are never going to replicate properly with discrete components. But it's fun to try - and important to learn what's going on inside those prepackaged miracles.

Great video! The most complete video for bjt in any amplifier. For someone interested in audio, you should watch this over and over until it makes sense. This condenses months of working on amplifiers into a few weeks with studying anything you don’t know in the video. I wish this was available when I first got into amplifiers and electronics. Thanks for taking the time to teach others.

in modern silicon processes, transistors are so small they are essentially free. Resistors on the other hand, can take up lots of space so replacing a resistor stage with a diff pair stage is very worth while. matching is also easier to accomplish with inter-digitated fets

could you have a couple of micro adjustable resistors on the inner string - you'd only need 4 perhaps even 2 to tweak the values there to bring them into linearity
