Can I use yarn?
@amethystatelier.creations3 ай бұрын
Absolutely! However i do suggest waxing it to help it go through the holes smoother. Depending on the type of yarn it could sometimes be difficult, but definitely doable. Good luck and have fun!

You talked about the printer - I am using a Brother Lazer Printer (MFC-L2685DW) for printing. It uses toner cartrages and prints about a 1000 pages per cartrage. The cartrages I have been able to pick up for $25.00 (per twin pack). Yes it only prints black and white but I only use it to print letters plus some content on the internet. I think that this would be an excellent addition to have when you are doing this and it prints double sided print.

I use this video as my reference to make my books <3 ! However, I am struggling to keep the covers close tight they keep flying up D: I was told to use an iron on the covers (I laminate the cover too with self-laminate) Do you have a method to keep them closed?

Have seen some tutorial videos where people put them under a book press to somewhat flatten them a bit for an hour or so (for these kinds of pocket notebooks though, I usually just put them between two heavy books). I've also used rubber bands or hair ties to keep them together, since these kinds of pocket notebooks inserts don't always lie flat anyway - and there's also a life-hack video I've recently seen for traveler's notebooks where someone used the extra elastic that came with it to have the notebook insert lie flat (just need to wrap two elastic bands on either side of an open notebook insert - though I've found rubber bands or hair ties to be a better/cheaper option for the pocket-sized inserts/pocket notebooks)! ^^

I really love this and can’t wait to try it. Do you have any other videos showing how you are sewing everything together? The speed of the video is great. It’s not boring and you fit in a lot but I can’t figure out how you strung it all together.

Thank you i really appreciate your feedback! I do have a tutorial video showing how i make Hardcover Journals using the kettle stitch binding method. However, i dont have one for the coptic and french link stitch yet, which is what i used to make the sketchbook. I am planning to make one in the future. In the meantime, i hope you enjoy my playlist on Bookbinding tutorials :)

Lovely books! Could I ask how you add additional thread when sewing the signatures together, and you run out of thread? Thanks!
@amethystatelier.creations9 ай бұрын
Thank you! So what you do is before you run out of thread, make a double knot to finish the old thread (you can do this even before you reach the end of a signature, i actually prefer doing it not at the end of the signature bc it gets a little confusing, you’l know what i mean if you try both and see the e difference). Anyway, do the double knot inside of the signature, then move the knot outside to the spine like how you would if you were at the end of the signature. Then cut the old thread. Rethread your needle with a new thread (dont forget the knot at the end of your new thread) then move it through the last hole you were in from the outside in. That’s it your ready to continue where you left off. Please let me know if this makes sense, i find its always easier to show things rather than explain into words, but hope this helps!

Did you glue the spin of the of the text block to the cover?
@amethystatelier.creations9 ай бұрын
Hi Katina, thats a good question. No, i did not glue the spine of the texrblock to the cover. If you glue the spine, the notebook will not open because it will prevent the spine from folding open. The spine needs to fold in order to for the notebook to open. Only the endpages needs to be glued to the cover.

Love the video and how can i buy some book cover to put than on my books I made 📔
@amethystatelier.creations9 ай бұрын
Hi Hector, by book cover do you mean cover paper? Are you looking for paper to wrap the cover of your book or are you looking to purchase an already made book cover to put on a textblock you made? You can pretty much use any designer paper as a cover paper to your book. Joann’s Fabric Store is a good place to start since they have a variety of single sheets you can practice with and they have a lot of branches, hopefully you have one close to where you live. I know they also have some artisan papers, because I use them for my softcover notebook collection. They also have a variety of fabrics you can turn into a book cover if you are interested in experimenting with that.

Thank you very much for your excellent video! The video quality (lighting, camera angles, etc.) made each step of the bookbinding process very clear. Your commentary was also top-notch! Also, speaking as an old grandpa, I loved seeing glimpses of your baby and hearing the gentle cooing sounds in the background 😀

Your note books are beautiful and now I would love to try and make one 🙂 Please can I check the gap between the spine and the back and front of the chipboard when you are glueing it to the cover paper….i think you said 1/8” but it looks bigger than that and you use two spacers 🤔. Thanks for sharing your amazing talent with us 😊
@amethystatelier.creations9 ай бұрын
Oh goodness gracious I think I made a mistake, Wow thank you for noticing that! You’re right, i used two metallic rods. I thought i was using two 1/16” rods, which equals 1/8”, but I think in the video 1/16” plus one sligthly thicker rod. I need to clean my rods, they have a lot of dried glue on them they’re starting to look the same sizes to me. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. Anyway, if you use a width a little less than than 1/4” you should be fine. The important thing is to make the width of the cover hinge (the gaps from the spine) is more than the width of the chipboard which is at least 1/8”. Basically, use a width anywhere between 1/8” to 1/4”. Does that make sense? So sorry for the confusion!

Amazing video… very detailed. May I ask What items did you use to create the head band?
@amethystatelier.creations9 ай бұрын
Glad you like it! I used Nylon Cord and a strip of cloth used for quilting that I cut into pieces. Ive also used elastic cord, they tend to come with better patterns, like metallic stripes but can be a little harder to sew with the strip of clothe. The Nylon cord is much easier to sew but usually only comes in solid colors.
